How intriguing! How is it that I haven't heard about this yet :P Haha, not actually though - she's a little too old for my tastes. But you are right, from what I've heard come out of that woman's mouth - it basically would be the end of the world if she got elected. She scares me

Three Year Loans?

So, following this theory, I should borrow as much money as I can regardless of interest with repayment primarily as a balloon payment for 3 years hence? I have heard of this convergence of the Mayan and other religions having their "end of the world" celebration. Or maybe just another cycle starting?

I love it when the odd circumstance occurs, though I am not quite ready to assign it to coincidence.

I believe that's what Penn and Teller advised believers to do. Why does everyone assume they'll be one of the few survivors of the disaster. Live it up now .

The start of 2012 will be just another New Year to celebrate. i remember seeing a documentary entitled "The Bible Code." Many people who studied it have said that all that is happening is written there including the 9/11 attacks. But I have also seen another documentary that is saying that year 2000 will be the end of the world but look at now, it's already 2009 and we are still here.

I believe that God will not do such things to His people and will not let this thing to happen.

People believe Mayan theory according to which it is the judgement day and the earth would cease to exist..
But according to Nosterdamus ( which i too believe ) . . . there will only be a major change in the world and the world will not come to an end..
Now me have my fingers crossed..lolz

I have seen many predicted dates for the "end of time" in the last almost 60 years. Maybe it already happened and we just don't know it yet.

Maybe it's just a major change in history or something like that. Maybe climate change is one of that or a new technology will arises. Imagine if what we see on movies is what will happen in the future like what happen in the movie Star Wars or anime series Cowboy Bebop wherein people can live on other planets besides Earth.

I saw Star Wars but I don't think I saw this Cowboy Bebop. You may one day live on another planet. But as for me, I hate to move.

While this is a possibility probably centuries from now, we're nowhere near this technology now. I'm also not sure the climate will change that drastically in 3 years.

If I were to entertain the idea that something major is going to happen, my guess would be world war 3, or a war with far ranging effects - nuclear or biochemical most likely.

Have you not seen how Earth do looked like in Cowboy Bebop? It was shown when Ed debuts. Most likely a barren land with lots of garbage. We can say it lacks present (Cowboy Bebop) technology. And the most civilized planet is Mars.

Well... I also saw a tv series depicting what will happen on 2020. All you said happened there. And there's battle for food and basically, survival of the fittest or strongest.

There's also a possibilty, that's being stated in the show, that humans will evolve into another creature to survive its surroundings.

The show I'm talking about is Long Love Letter. A 2004 Japanese tv series.

Cowboy Bebop is only like SpongeBob in that they are both cartoons. It's an anime about bounty hunters in the future. Pretty cool really. One of the best anime shows around.

The relevant side was that Earth is all but destroyed in it. There's a bad accident involving a star gate that causes Earth to be ravaged and surrounding by a huge meteor field. It's just one big wasteland, so people move away and try to start better lives in the colonies on Mars and Europa.

Thanks for the info. I kind of got behind on my cartoons after my children grew up.

All that " Earth is all but destroyed" makes my "survival" instincts tingle. You know make sure I have food and water for my family. Emergency power, lights, DC powered fridges. Plenty of ammo to protect all these things. I think I have most of that covered for a few weeks.

Parakeet had a very nice explaination. He is indeed right. But on that time, food is very scarce on Earth and you can only see planetary garbage like analog tvs, vhs players and some old school stuffs. If you need food, you need to rely on merchants or go to another planet like Mars.

From what little I have seen of Mars I will not be going there. I would love to go on a visit in space. But I want to die on Earth. So I will take my chances here on Earth. Even after Obama plays president.

A little bit off topic, but since we seem to have gotten to talk about a near future dystopia I guess it works.

I'd recommend you guys read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. By far one of the best books I have ever read. It really does provide a pretty good picture of a possible scenario to how the world will end up.

I can't say this is off-topic. But you did suggest a good book. I heard of it sometime ago but I don't have a chance to buy and read it.

Is that a novel or a science-related book?

Same goes here. It will take several years to terraform Mars and make living in it possible. Maybe it will take a hundred to a thousand years to finish. well... We are already dead by that time.

It's a fictional novel. The author definitely did quite a bit of research on a lot of topics though because there are quite a lot of scientific elements in it - quite a bit to do with genetic engineering etc.

Well... I would like to read it since I am into science fiction. I will try to look for it in the nearest bookstore at our place. It is hard bound or soft bound?

By the way, since you mentioned about genetic engineering, do you think in 2012 that human cloning is possible?

I believe you can buy it both hard and soft bound.

Hmm, I'm not sure if human cloning will be possible by 2012, but I would say definitely within the next decade or two. We can already clone non-human species. One of the main problems that's holding back human cloning is the ethical implications.
