Whale Wars

One of the most controversial acts of animal rights groups I have ever seen is displayed on the Discovery Channel's sibling channel Animal Planet every Friday night at 9PM EST.

Quote:
Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

Sea Shepherd uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately-balanced ocean ecosystems, Sea Shepherd works to ensure their survival for future generations.
I don't know who has or hasn't seen this, but, this show is absolutely nuts. I agree with the Sea Shepherd's and I wish they would step up their tactics. They definitely do some amateur like stuff, but, hopefully in the future we can get some Navy Captains or something down there along with other types of weapons so it turns into an all out war. I would so be down to sign up.

I support the cause and Call BS on the Japnese claim of 'scientific fishing' butthe SS engage in piracy. Frankly I hope the ram the factry ship and end both their annoying operations at the same time and in ablaze of glory.

Good ratings if nothing else.

Preservation is important but should be balanced with the needs of other cultures. For instance Americans are averse to eating whale meat, but no so for the Japanese. I think Americans would be infuriated if another country tells us we should stop eating beef.

I can't believe they have rammed other ships in the past! It would be awesome to see full steam ahead and go smack dab into the factory ship.

I think it is more along the standpoint of what the IWC has come to an agreement upon. It's not the US telling the Japanese they can't eat whale meat. The Sea Shepherds don't even sail under our flag.

[FONT="Georgia"]I love the smashing pumpkins - great choice jdsingle! I can't really see the relevance of the song to whaling or anti-whaling groups though. Maybe they just play the song because it sounds good.

I think lyrically it can follow the show a bit. Not to mention it is a badass theme song and Discovery does a pretty good job at picking the best ones.

I've not seen or even heard of this show until now. It sounds like the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society have the right idea though. I'll try and remember to watch it at some point.

IT is absolutely nuts. This Friday's episode should be particularly good since they have a collision.

What I find said is that the show has to exist at all. It's one thing to allow a culture to hunt whales, but it's something different for a culture to lie about it, claiming it for scientific study when the whole world (figuratively) knows the truth.
Personally, I think every whaling ship should be sunk in the water where they patrol.

I have seen the show a few times and read articles about it. While I agree what the Japanese are doing is horrendous, the activists are going to end up killing someone. They are reckless and have poor planning and actions.

If they keep it up a tragedy is going to happen and one or more vessels are going to sink in the Southern Ocean that may result in fatalities.

Personally, I think every Japanese whaling ship should be sank. Most of the "sea shepherd" people are willing to die for their cause.

So when will they do the dieing part (preferably taking the Japanese with them)?

That I'll watch.
