Obama wants to cut the budget in half by 2013

President Obama has announced that he wants to cut the budget in half by 2013. The announcement comes in the light of people getting even more worried about the budget after the recent stimulus was passed.

Personally, I think it would be great if he did it, but I really don't see it. The stimulus, his extensions of the Iraq and Afghanistan war, and his socialist policies are just way too much spending to cut the budget by that much.

He is not going to do it, this is just a stupid way to try to calm down people who are worried about the problem. Obama is far from fiscally conservative...

I can't believe he'd actually say that. That's idiotic. I don't believe it is physically possible to cut the budget in half. If he plans to do it, then he'll have to gut entitlement programs, because that's the only fat.

Only a small portion of the budget is left to us anymore. Its brekas down like this (from what I remember of the CBO reports). The military costs about 500 billion. We spend about 700 billion on things like infrastructure, education, etc. We throw 400 billion to interest on the national debt. Then the rest, roughly 900 billion or a little over a trillion goes to social security, welfare, and government paychecks.

We could disband the army and drop medicare, yet we'd barely cut the budget in half.

Exactly, this was a very stupid thing to say and I really think it was simply because of the politics behind it. He currently has high approval ratings and people like him, so they are more likely to believe him. I wonder what they'll think when they find out its not possible...

How can he do it when he continually pumps in money into the system and devalues the dollar even more.
