tecoyah.

I noticed in some thread that you made a mud/straw hut. What got you into that? how many have you made?

I have a problem.....sorta.

I have built a great many things, and noted the waste.
I have studied material to the point of disgust....noted what goes into fiberglass production, lye and drywall pollution, let alone the stuff thrown onto your yard and covered in dirt.

I simply wanted to make a building as clean as possible.

But sure....I would be happy to be the first of the fireside chats.

Have at it.

I have a question: Is there any one book or film that has influenced your worldview the most and if so what is it?

The Tao of Physics truly forced me to think....but I will state for the record re-reading the Bible(s) probably led me to delve into further spirituality if only because they were so lacking. Pale Blue Dot was a very impactful read as well, and made me pay closer attention to that whole pesky reality thingy.

As far as movies, I see them as entertainment primarily....Aliens was pretty awesome, and the Matrix for it's time was excellent. I very much enjoyed "the Gods must be crazy" as well.

Likely around Four yrs. old....Dad had a camper and we toured the US on vacation. My brother almost stepped on a bunch of baby rattlesnakes somewhere in the mid west. I clearly remember my mom freaking out big time.

Environmental consultant (LEED), part time contractor.

No one thought this would be important when I was a kid.

I wanted to be a scientist.

I do not believe in a God....anyones.

I have however gained a level of "Spirituality" through meditation, Buddhist teachings, and a belief in Karma.

As far as learning...I believe in science, reality, and growth. Thus, I learn constantly.

If you are talking about a "God" that rules like a king, kills at a whim and condemns those who disagree to everlasting pain, then I agree.

If you are talking about a force that exists both within and without the natural universe, then I do believe in such a force. I think most religions use the concept of God as a focus point, but that their perceptions of "God" are largely incomplete.

Jesus spoke of being One with God. Many Christians interpret this to be part of the Trinity belief, but it also fits with the Buddhist concept of being One with the Universe. As he even mentions later in this passage, this oneness applies to all of us. Very Zen-like!

John 10:25-35
New International Version (NIV)
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”

33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’? 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside—
