LOL! City Sends Out "Zombie Alert"

When the power went out in Lake Worth early Sunday morning, many residents received a bizarre message from the city.

It read, “Power outage and zombie alert for residents of Lake Worth and Terminus.”

“Terminus” is a city from the TV show "The Walking Dead."

The message provides details of the outage and then ends by saying, “Due to extreme zombie activity, restoration time uncertain.”

Lake Worth city officials confirmed the message did come from the city.

They said it appears they were hacked.

Officials said whenever there is an outage, the system automatically sends a message alerting customers.

Officials said it appears somebody changed this one specific message.

They do not believe the person ever gained access to the utility itself.

City officials said they do not know who made the change nor how they did it, but they do not believe it was an employee or an ex-employee.

“We are looking into the reports that the system mentioned zombies,” said Ben Kerr, communications specialist for Lake Worth. “I want to reiterate that Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and apologize for the system message.”

Kerr said the system generates more than 1,000 messages because of outages.

They are checking all the other messages to make sure they have not been changed.
