One thing we should not cut spending on

I consider myself to be a fiscal conservative. I do not believe huge budgets are good for the long-term utility of the people (generally, although it is always on a case-by-case basis depending on perceived costs vs. benefits). But there are certain things that I realize easily outweigh the costs.

One of these is data. Unfortunately, in the little game DC is currently playing, Federally produced data on a variety of economic factors has been questioned. The savings would not even be noteworthy, but politicians like to have these little badges so they can say, "look I cut something". Cutting data such as the Consolidated Federal Funds report (which was already cut) makes it harder to see where the money is going and what is happening!

But I guess irresponsible politicians would love to decrease transparency.

Absolutely! We have a bunch of foxes watching our hen house. Most of them only care for themselves and those they know. Liars and thieves would describe many of them in any other line of work.

İt could be harder or easy to see, but transparency must be guaranteed by the constitution.

The "constitution" no longer has the authority it once had.

I think military spending should be cut. We spend billions on so called wars. It's time for the US to take care of itself and stop being the world's big brother. If the middle east wants to tear itself apart and fight wars, let them, but we should stay out of it IMO.

I actually gave numbers in another thread that would cut our spending by 50% while increasing funding for military pay/benefits.

Sounds cool then. I do think we should not cut spending for education tho. Where I live they cut out like all the extra school activities. It is upsetting.
