You said "If only they had listened, the billionaires would not now be destroying the United States."

I was only addressing what you said.

WOW! You have a short attention span!

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? --- Rodney King

Sigh. Americans have such a talent for hysteria. Have European nations fallen apart because they have open borders? Sure, there are potential problems, but they are manageable between people of good will. So what if Spanish becomes a second language along with English? Educated and cultured people consider knowing a second language to be a plus, not a minus.

And why this obsession with assimilation? Why in Heaven's name must everyone "assimilate"? Are Americans punctilious about assimilating with other cultures when they go to live overseas?

Life is not necessarily easy for people when they are thrust into a different language and a different culture. I, for one, am willing to cut them a little slack. Go live in Japan or Germany, and see if you assimilate completely! At times, I suspect that you may sink so low as to have a craving for a hamburger and a chocolate shake! Perhaps also, a craving for a little conversation in English.

In this century, national cultures will explode over the world in multitudinous and complex diasporas, much like the Diaspora of the Jews. If people think that they can stop this process, they are just as foolish as King Canute commanding the tide to turn back. People must get used to living cheek-by-jowl with other cultures, and they would be wise to learn how to get along with each other.

Some examples of hysteria would be nice. I cannot think of any. Get a headache try to think of one.

The problem of the so called mixed-economy system is that it is complicated. It is complicated in the same way that the human body is complicated --- uncountable independent units (cells, organs, bacteria, molecules, ...) all functioning as separate entities, yet also functioning as level upon level of social units ---all independent from one point of view, all dependent from another, all coping with growth, and disease, in a myriad of ways.

Yet, of course, this apparent chaos of "complicated, uncountable independent units" is kept under rigorous control by superlatively effective totalitarian methods.

The individual cells, long ago, were free to swim wherever they liked. Now, chemicals are used to drug them into compliance with the Will of the Greater Whole. Any disobedience by individual cells is ruthlessly suppressed by electric shocks forcing the cells to cringe in obedience. Should any cell stand in the way of the Greater Will, it is ruthlessly eliminated by starvation, suffocation, or torture and dismemberment by shock-troops and hireling scavengers. Any cells which resist are labelled "cancers", the lowest of the low, and the Greater Body tirelessly seeks ever new ways to suppress, destroy and eliminate them!!

But all this is done to achieve the Higher Ends of the Whole !! -- so that you, for example, may raise your finger to click your computer mouse!!

So does the Supreme Ultimate of Totalitarianism achieve its lofty goal in your Glorious Self!!

Don't be a hypocrite. If Americans go and live overseas they are referred to as "ugly Americans" by your ilk if they do not assimilate.

Assimilation is a way of respecting one's host country; in someway becoming a part of it. it doesn't mean you can't keep vestiges of your homeland, but when it runs counter to the ethics and core of the country you moved to, you must drop it (female genital mutilation, honor killings, stoning adulterers, etc).

So yes, if one moves to America, one must make efforts to assimilate. If you hate our culture, stay away. To hate the culture you live in makes you a mere virus, feeding on the host you despise until you kill it.
Thanks from Aufgeblassen

There's an example of the hysteria you were asking for, Auffie.
