I wish people would stop using GOP to describe the Repubs. The GOP holds a very specific meaning (Grand Old Party, the pro-business wing of what was initially a coalition of conservatives and moderate socialists) and while it was once synonymous with the Republican Party that's no longer true. McCain is GOP, Ryan is TP Ron Paul is a Libertarian, Cain is a Christian Nationalist, W is a Neocon and Trump is... An idiot. The Repubs have so many factions these days no single label applies. The GOP stopped being synonymous with Repubs under Bush the Elder when the Neocons took over. The the TP came along and it all went to hell.

I like that the republicans/GOP think independently.

The democrats do and vote on everything like a large virus. Independent thought is not allowed.

good for the gov'ner.

If that was true Dems would rule (outnumbering Repubs 2:1). Dems are notorious for not towing the party line. Also not my point. GOP is a faction of the Republican Party, not the Republican Party by another name. Tossing non-GOP Repubs into the mix makes the real GOP Repubs look bad.

LOL! Do a wiki search for "grand old party", and you get REPUBLICAN PARTY; NO separate article, because they are ONE & THE SAME! - hello?! Wake up!

Here's the actual definition/description of the Republican Party/GOP:

The Republican Party, commonly referred to as the GOP (abbreviation for Grand Old Party), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States, the other being its historic rival, the Democratic Party. The party is named after republicanism, the dominant value during the American Revolution. Founded by anti-slavery activists, economic modernizers, ex-Whigs, and ex-Free Soilers in 1854, the Republicans dominated politics nationally and in the majority of northern States for most of the period between 1860 and 1932.

Article wiki gives for Grand Old Party wiki search:

"The elephant - symbol of the Republican Party since 1874 - remembers that GOP stands for "Grand Old Party," but increasingly, the elephant is standing alone.
At least that's the thinking at The Wall Street Journal, which has decided to stop using the acronym to refer to the 148-year-old political party.
In an internal memo issued to staffers last week, Journal higher-ups said the term GOP will be dropped because not all readers know what the letters mean, and some may not realize that they are a reference to the Republican Party."
