High stakes proxy war

One day, a multi-billionaire named Amer invited his two "friends", Wa and Chin, to his house for a gambling session. While Wa and Chin were having their card game, Amer stood there as a spectator. Halfway through the game, Amer told them he was having diarrhoea and had to go to the toilet.

The gambling game started with each player placing a stake of two dollars. The stake increased gradually by a multiple of two for each new game. Thus each player had to place four dollars for the second game, eight dollars for the third game, sixteen dollars for the fourth game, and so on.

Wa was desperate after losing the 24th game. Together with a few earlier losses, he had lost a considerable amount of money. He told Chin: "Please excuse me. I think I have been infected with diarrhoea by Amer." Chin smiled: "Don't forget to come back. I can't wait to win all your money."

Wa went to the toilet and knocked at the door: "Amer, are you still there?" Back came a voice from inside the toilet: "Is the gambling session over?" Wa replied: "No, I have lost a lot of money. I can't afford to gamble anymore."

Amer said: "We canít change horses in midstream. Go back and continue with the gambling. I am ready to back you with all my financial resources. I shall pay for whatever you lose from the next stake onwards. For every win, I will allow you to keep a portion of the money. Isn't this a very profitable deal for you?"

Wa laughed: "Certainly. There is no better job in the world than to work for others as a paid gambler."

After Wa left, Amer chuckled quietly to himself: "Old Chin, oh old Chin! How dare you to challenge me? You are not gambling with poor Wa, but with me, Amer, the richest man in the country. Wake up, dreamer, before you head for your downfall. Whenever you ask me not to side with Wa, I can't help laughing. Why shouldn't I take sides? I am not siding with anybody, but myself! Instead of looking behind you, you are behaving like a retard, thinking that a tiger is attacking you from inside a stream. Despite being a master of "proxy wars", you have entangled like a fly in a web of proxy war. Ha! Ha!"

As he laughed, he stood up, opened the toiletís door and walked into the room to join Wa and Chin in their high stakes gambling.

Though I did get the gist...this is a rather poor story as far as analogy.

Hopefully, Wa and Chin won't pull guns on each other over the "gambling game" while Amer looks on with a wicked smile.

Thanks for your comment.

Perhaps the story could be improved by the following changes:

1. Changing the title of the story to a simpler "Web of Proxies".

2. Making some changes to the last part of the story. (Note the words in bold print.)

After Wa left, Amer chuckled quietly to himself: "Old Chin, oh old Chin! How dare you to challenge me? You are not gambling with poor Wa, but with me, Amer, the richest man in the country. Wake up, dreamer, before you head for your downfall and bankruptcy. Whenever you ask me not to side with Wa, I can't help laughing. Why shouldn't I take sides? I am not siding with anybody, but myself! Instead of looking behind you, you are behaving like a retard, thinking that a tiger is attacking you from inside a stream. You have become an entangled fly in my web of proxies. Thatís why I ďpivotĒ to this suburb where you are having your headquarters. Ha! Ha! Ha!"

As he laughed, he stood up, opened the toiletís door and walked towards the sitting room where Wa and Chin were having their high stakes gambling.

I'm going to go out on a limb here:

Amer is America

Chin is China

but who is "Wa"?

Also, what is the diarrhea about? is that a metaphor for stimulus?

Wa or Yamato is the oldest recorded name of Japan.

There is no significance or meaning for diarrhoea in the story. It's not a metaphor for anything. I could have used any other reason such as "food poisoning" for Amer and Wa to discuss their conspiracy in the absence of Chin. It is unnecessary or impossible for everything in the story to have a meaning.

Similarly, we can't interpret everything in our dreams. I don't think the Biblical Joseph could do it either.

P.S. It would be quite surprising if diarrhoea could be a stimulus for anybody.

I was thinking that maybe diarrhea was stimulus like as in money down the toilet? Anywho I enjoy your metaphors, they're like a mystic puzzle or something, keep it up !

Amer and Wa obviously could not discuss their conspiracy within earshot of Chin. Hence, in one way or another, I have to create a situation for them to discuss their plot in the absence of Chin. For instance, Amer could be made to have a headache and forced to retire to his bedroom in the story. Wa could later give an excuse to go to the toilet, but instead he went quietly to Amer's bedroom to discuss their plot privately.

Like other writers of fairy tales, I prefer to leave the interpretation of any symbolic meaning to the readers.

If you enjoy figuring out riddles and symbolic meanings, you could find them in poetry and other arts. In particular, the Bible, Lewis Carroll's Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland and William Blake's poetry are rich in symbolism.

"The use of symbols is one of the most striking features of Blake’s poetry. There is hardly any poem written by Blake, which does not possess a symbolic meaning, besides its apparent or surface meaning. Though most of his poems are written in simple language, the fact does not deprive them of a deep meaning. However in order to understand Blake’s poetry at a deeper level, we have to know something about the symbols, which he makes use of. Critics have classified the principal symbols which are used by William Blake as innocence symbols, energy symbols, sexual symbols, corruption symbols, oppression symbols and so on."

Thanks for your encouragement. I think you can write better than me. I look forward to your first tale in the forum.
