WHY The Idea Of "The Afterlife" Was Invented

Any thoughts?

How about because: life suddenly, often without warning turning into pure nothingness is unacceptable, incomprehensible, and unfathomable to many people?

'
In all human societies, people have hallucinations of people who have died --- and not being philosophers,, they have thought that this proved that the spirits of the dead have survived.

Is it natural that something so "natural" as death proves unacceptable, incomprehensible, and unfathomable ?
Thanks from numan

The immensity, intensity, and capaciousness of life coming to a sudden halt is incognizible.

The afterlife concept is a possibility made "Reality" by religions to gain power over people.

Agreed!

The ultimate snake oil scam since it promises "heaven", which cannot be verified, while taking possession of existing wealth and labor in the current lifetime from those gullible enough to believe the scam.

Aufgeblassen, et al,

One possible method to a solution requires that the question be reduced to its simplest form:

Is there nothing more?
Why am I afraid?

Of course, to "many people" the --- contemplating the final termination is "unacceptable." But the expression --- incomprehensible, and unfathomable" --- is to say that the entire concept of a conscious and sentient being is undefined. And it is --- that near supernatural conscious and sentient aspect of a life form suggests that there is a continuum.

Remember, we do not yet understand or are able to adequately define what a conscious and sentient being is.

For some people, subject to sudden death, there is no anguish. In a matter of moments (if not instantly) you are here, you languish, and then you die. Yes, of course you may worry and fear death. But at the moment the brain and thoughts dim --- you are either gone and nothing more can be done to you --- you are simply gone; OR, you are in the another state that cannot be defined or characterized.

Most Respectfully,
R
