Alamo Spirit Lacking in Our Leaders - An Editorial

The current reaction by members of the U. S. Congress to the current Health Care legislation shows their true character, attitude and moral values as practiced in their everyday lives.

We now have people in the Congress who will even sell their soul for a price; case in point those who took strong stands against abortion and equally strong stands for passage of the Medical Care for All Bill--the single payer plan embraced in H.R. 676. They were all bought out for a price with Obama telling them how to call the shots or face the consequences.

Some of those in Congress involved who took the above stands are Conyers, Kucinich, Weiner. On the abortion issue, possibly Stupak. THEY ALL CAVED IN AND CHANGED THEIR STAND AND VOTES!!

Such an attitude of cowardice scares me. If our legislative officials can cave in so easily to such pressure which does not involve at this point physical torture, what can we expect of them if captured by terrorists and they make demands that could harm this country and its citizens. Would they be able to stand up to their demands if tortured? Right now I don't think so.

What we need in Congress are people who have the Spirit of the Alamo fighters. These brave and heroic individuals believed in having principles in their lives and following them no matter what the cost. This same type of spirit existed in our forefathers for if they had the same wimpy and compromising attitude we would still be under English rule.

Those who fought in the Alamo battle KNEW THE ODDS WERE AGAINST THEM AND THEY WOULD BE KILLED. BUT THEY FOUGHT ON NEVERTHELESS!

In Christianity the same is expected of the Lord's followers. They are not to be lukewarm or fence stradlers. They are expected to stand to the end regardless of the cost. It is this same type of obedience to principle that has won many battles for freedom, liberty and spread of the Gospel in ages past.

This nation must return to its basic principles of morality, ethics, truthfulness, honesty and justice if it wishes to survive as the country our forefathers envisioned it to be. Let's get rid of those motivated by greed, corruption and self centered interests before it is too late. This is not a Republican, Democrat, liberal or conservative issue as all are effected by the consequences of such cowardly action.

Let's look at the Alamo spirit in each and invidual person we wish to place in public office. If if is not there DON'T CAST YOUR VOTE, even if it means having to vote for the lesser of two evils. Christians need to know they are not to support any evil. In fact Kucinich admitted as such when casting his vote for Obamacare.

During the upcoming elections let's send a clear cut message to Congress or any other elected public official--no more wimps, cowards, sell outs or those who putlobbyists and other foreign interests ahead of us the people will we elect to office.

The folks at the Alamo fought on at 1st because they thought they would get reinforcements and then because they were trapped and had no choice.

Sou you want congress filled of rash people that will fight like caged animals with absolutely no logic behind their decisions? No thanks, we already suffered a president like that. :(

Don't forget that should apparently be restrained from ever being allowed to change their minds.

I have no problem with Congressman changing their minds, but I do have a problem when they just look at special interest benefits instead of what their constituents actually want.

Yeah, then maybe the bill would have been better and more would have supported it. But you shouldn't be so utopic. Politicians and special interests go hand in hand.

I know that, but when you are stuck with this Congress and President for at least 2 years (only ~9 months to go!) you can only be hopeful.

In the nuclear age, no less.

And still lack comprehension of just how much America suffered and will continue to suffer because of the neocons. There really is no free lunch.

Many people think the current POTUS is the best in their lifetime. Imperfection does not mean evil or incompetent.

The thought i often have is "at least something is being done". It's never anywhere near enough, or anywhere near the radical choices that really need to be made. It's a shame, but that's the reality. We can only hope for these crumbs thrown from the rich man's table.
