1. The following excerpts are taken from Washington correspondent Daniel Bush's February 6 news article headlined "Trump's nuclear arms control push with Russia hinges on China".

(Begin excerpts)
President Donald Trump has said he can replace an expiring US-Russia arms control deal with a better agreement that includes China, a move that would upend a decades-long arrangement between the world's biggest nuclear powers....

Trump has repeatedly spoken in favour of nuclear arms control in his second term, part of a self-styled peacemaker agenda that Trump is hoping can net him the Nobel peace prize.

But Trump's insistence that China be involved in new arms control talks could stymie progress towards a deal. Beijing has said it won't start negotiations until the US and Russia reduce their nuclear weapons arsenals. It's also unclear how tensions over Ukraine will impact arms control talks between the White House and the Kremlin.....

Today Russia has 4,309 deployed and stored nuclear warheads and the US has 3,700, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. The nations combined hold almost 90 percent of the global inventory. China has 600 nuclear warheads, but the figure is expected to grow to as many as 1,000 by the end of the decade.... (a) Let us take a look at the estimated nuclear warheads inventory, January 2025, of the three top nuclear powers:

(b) Last month, the White House incumbent signalled he was comfortable with letting the New Start Treaty expire. "If it expires, it expires," he said in an interview with the New York Times. "We'll just do a better agreement" (by including China in the arms control talks).

A "better" agreement?? Following the expiry of the New START Treaty, the US and Russia should aim for the BEST agreement by ridding the world of all nuclear weapons which hang like the Sword of Damocles above the heads of all mankind.

The first step towards the goal of global denuclearisation is that both America and Russia should each reduce their nuclear warheads inventory to 600 before including China in the arms control talks. Compared to Russia and the US, China's meagre nuclear arsenal is akin to the size of a hare as compared to two dinosaurs.

Imagine what could have happened if dinosaurs of all kinds are still running amok among humans today. Fortunately, according to scientists, the terrific dinosaurs had evolved into modern birds. Instead of facing the danger of being devoured by the monsters, human beings are now enjoying listening to the sweet chirping of birds every morning.

Just as living in a world without dinosaurs, mankind definitely dream of a nuclear-free world. The leaders of the two top nuclear superpowers can definitely make that dream come true. What a blessing for mankind if all terrifying things could be gradually reduced in scale and eliminated eventually!
