According to the Foreign Office, as part of new UK policy, if the Argentines try to take the Falklands off the British as they did in 1982, they don't think they should fight to regain them.
The Falklands are part of the iconogrpahy of the Convervative Party of the past 50 years, too.
The last thing England needs is to get involved in another war, especially one it can ill-afford.

Quite true if the UK wishes to see their world status greatly reduced.

I think you're reaction indicates how unfamiliar you are with the reach and influence held by the UK even today. The Commonwealth consists mostly of independent states but the influence of the UK is not to be shrugged at.

Of the non European states on the planet today those that are former Brtit colonies are almost in every case (I asy almost to give myself an out) the most successful emergent states on the planet. Hardly worth a chuckle.

True. The Brits still, directly or indirectly, exert a tremendous influence worldwide. And yeah, we should be thankful for their common law, among other things (such as Earl Grey tea).
