In a large takeover before the much anticipated IPO, Facebook has announced that it will be buying Instagram for $1 billion.

I didn't see this one coming. Is tech bubble 2.0 upon us? I think it might be starting with the LinkedIn IPO a bit back.

Could Facebook and Google be wanting to control everything on line? They sure don't seem to care about privacy.

A takeover doesn't really mean they don't care about privacy. And that point (whether or not they care) is arguable. To an extent without certain data they would not be able to provide the search results or ads that make their businesses so successful.

I never did understand the privacy concerns with Facebook. It's a social networking site, making your private life public IS THE POINT.

Eh... most people don't use it as a public profile, but more as a private profile that is open to only certain groups (friends, family, etc.) There is a difference. Privacy concerns also extend to the selling and storing of personal info in corporate databases.

When did Facebook become so uncool?

It's hard to pinpoint the moment when Facebook's image problem started. Maybe it was when users realized how much data Facebook was collecting about them. Maybe it was when CEO Zuckerberg started to seem less like that geeky, counterculture college kid and more like a run-of-the-mill billionaire.

Uncool? Lol, I am guessing none of the people who were quoted or wrote that article are in their 20s. Their argument is basically that it is popular so it is uncool. Yea, maybe if you're a hipster :p

Everyone still has a Facebook and uses it. They are concerned about privacy, but no one is not using Facebook.

I am not using it. And 75% of the people I know don't use it. I deleted my facebook after the 2010 elections. I am working on getting Google out of my life. I have one email account with them that will be a pain to drop. I deleted Chrome from all my machines already. I also have a couple of do not track type things running on my computers. I will junk the computers if I have to.:p

75% of the people you know probably aren't in their teens or 20s :p That article makes it look like people aren't using Facebook anymore or stopping. It's just not true.

True I am very lucky that me and most of the people we know had a life before facebook. I tried it and did not like 90% of what I got. But I am really more POed at Google than Facebook. I was a big Google fan. Then they just decided they don't care what I want or need. They will do with my info. just as they wish. They keep "warning" me that they will soon change all my Gmail accounts over to the "new"Gmail look. I keep telling them I don't care about photos, chat, and the rest of the new crap. So I may need to notify a load of people of a change. If that happens I may just kill DodgeFB off and start over.:p
