His incredible victories over the romans made him the most feared enemy of rome. His only weakness was that he eventually was at the mercy of his countrys own greedy politicians who never sent him the supplies he needed to finish the romans off, but his brilliant military strategies like the ones he used at the battle of cannae helped him to overcome a 2 or even 3 to one odds and destroy the then invincible roman army.

Hannibal was incredibly impressive. His war did basically destroy Carthage though, since the very angry Romans decided to take revenge on them in a big way in about 20 years (if I remember my World History paper correctly). Very impressive strategies though.

I personally was a bit more impressed by Spartacus though. He took a ragtag group of gladiators and built up a rebellion that came fairly close to threatening Rome. He could have been a serious thorn in their side for years if he had better disciplined soldiers and proper sea transportation.
