I found this site by accident and since it looks interesting, here I am. Two of my hobbies are cross- country skiing and storm chasing. I also enjoy discussing politics and music. I have been tracing my family's heritage and found some surprises.

Welcome, James!

I too am from Iowa. Spencer. Born and raised, though I have not lived there since I graduated high school and left for college back in '66. I do visit there once a year. Still have family that reside out there.

What genres of music do you enjoy, sir?

Thank you both for the welcome.

You, Comet probably remember the Spencer fair. It was part of our family tradition for years. One of our daughter's college room mates lives in Spencer.

I'm not all that knowledgeable, but I like Rock, Country, and folk music. While researching my family tree, I discovered Scandinavian/Sami music. Mari Boine, "I Come from the Other Side", Sophia Karlsson "Jeg Venter", Sophia Jannuk, and SomBy are pretty good. You can find them on YouTube.

Ah, yes, the Clay County Fair. Was a tradition in my family growing up. Heck, my parents are in their eighties and they still go every year. It is one of the largest county fairs in the country. Good times.

Glad to have you aboard, sir. Cheers!

Welcome to the forum James! Iowa must be interesting during the caucuses, isn't it? (or maybe the media just hypes it up a lot)

Thanks, and Cheers to you too, Comet. Yes, myp, Iowa is interesting. The candidates robo call us to tell us they are our best friends. Sometimes, they send Christmas cards. Michele Bachman campaigned at a restaurant near us, and she asked if I planned to vote for her on caucus night. I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I said "You certainly don't look your age." She beamed and moved on.
