The Obama administration yielded on the Keystone XL pipeline after protesting and opposition fueled by environmentalists and NIMBYism in the states through which it would pass. The pipeline would send oil from Alberta to the Gulf Coast.

Thoughts on this? Do you think that the environmental arguments were strong enough to justify this? Did the Obama administration just play this politically again?

Yes. But he had to piss off some union members on this one. They wanted the jobs. But they will have to wait about 15 months to see if it happens. The next president could make the decision in the end.

I'm not opposed to this as the Canadians have stated they'll develop this and us sell to someone else if we don't deal so the environmental issue is moot. My issue is h are the building this thing cross country when they could revitalize the Rust Belt by building new refineries and directing the pipeline there. We could sell more for less to the Euros and it could still get to Asia via the now clear NW Passage (ya, GW is a hoax lol). There's no need to send the oil to TX.

I have no problem with giving the rust belt a boost. But I suspect there will be resistance from the "green" crowd anywhere they try to do anything with oil. That is just what they do.
