Today, Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich backed off from calling Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor a racist.

First of all, I find it hard to believe that this was coincidental that it was done on the same day. Second of all, what could be the reason? I understand Gingrich as he may run for president some day and is still an elder for the GOP.

But Limbaugh worried about offending people? Unheard of! The only thing I can even think of is a rumor that Sotomayor may actually be pro-life.

Is it farfetched to think that they may have received a personal approach from Obama or someone close to him?

Two possibilities that I can see.

1. Steele and a few Republicans leaned on Limbaugh hard to stop making them look bad. Sort of a "we got it" thing.

2. The Huffington Post thing said Obama's administration agreed that her statement was not a good thing to say...so maybe the tide is turning on Obama's side and they're going to let him take the heat for turning her away later.
