Lincoln is often considered one of the greatest American Presidents because he kept the union together. But technically, he might have ignored the Constitution in doing so. Pro-secession advocates will be quick to point this out- you see it a lot in some circles like the C4L, Ron Paul's group.

What does everyone here think about it and how do you rate Lincoln as a President?

He was a dirty hypocrite. A white supremacist, secessionist, imperialist who pretty much turned on everything he advocated (with the noted exception of conquering Africa which his supporters attempted after his death) once he took the top job and his positions became liabilities.

But are you glad he did what he did? Furthermore, knowing how it turned out, how would you feel about a similar circumstance today? Say some states wanted to leave- how would you feel about that? (although I doubt the Federal government would even let it get that far today given how much more power they seem to have)

I'm a secessionist myself (America is a sinking ship, time to play the rat and cut and run) so I'd have no issue so long as it was non-violent (unless the Feds start shooting) and the state(s) leaving had pre-arranged trade deals and alliances least they collapse into ruin form the word go.

I think Lincoln was over rated. To stop secession he had his army kill their own people. Just as some countries around the world are doing today. And as this government would do to us we tried it today.
