The utility of the health-care bill is, obviously, still up for debate. However, there should be no debate pertaining to the utility of a Representative voting for, or against, the health-care bill, without gauging the opinion of their constituents. Also, if one does gauge the opinion, they should not dismiss their concerns as tout the benefits for others that will not aid them. Representative Debbie Halvorson (11th District, IL) voted for the health-care bill and lived-up to her reputation as a Pelosi/Obama acolyte. She voted without sufficiently gauging the feelings of her district and the people who she did talk to, dismissed their concerns on sort of a greater good philosophy. She is supposed to support the interests of the 11th district, not the interests of anyone else' district, or the agenda of the party. She, and her party, ignored possible alternatives to their health-care revolution. They put the most important issue, saving our fledgling economy and creating jobs, on the backburner so they could massage the President's ego.
People need to hold her, and those like her, accountable for their crippling apathy toward the needs and interests of their district. They mismanaged their "super-majority" to the point where they could not pass any legislation that pleased a "super-majority" of the American people. They are supposed to represent us. Debbie Halvorson is supposed to represent Illinois' 11th district. Make her pay attention to you in November, while she packs up her office.
