For all of my compatriots, who are you voting for?

I'm not 100% myself yet but it seems that I have alot riding on this as I discovered today. While doing research on the candidates, I discovered that my family (on my mom's side) is a staunch political ally of the Meek's (supporting their campaigns and administrations and serving with each other during the Clinton Administration) as well as being friendly with a man by the name of Scott Galvin who is running to replace Kendrick Meek in Florida's 17th Congressional District.

Now none of this surprises me. I knew that my family on both sides was politicly active with powerful allies in the Floridian and Federal gov'ts though until Kendrick Meek, I didn't know who they were not being active with any of them. As for Scott Galvin, I grew up with the man, so I'm kind of mad that I'm only just now realizing who he is.

Now Meek seems to have some issues so I'm not sure if I'll be a sheep and vote with my family and Galvin, while having a record I like, I can't vote for due to the whole not living in District 17 thing. Too bad, he seems like a good guy.

Regardless of how I vote I may find myself in an interesting position if they both win as I have plans for trying for the Floridian Congress (people like Gov. Charlie Crist need to get replaced) and having 2 Federal politicians as allies would do alot of good in overcoming gerrymandering. We'll see what happens.

As for the US as a whole, the way I see it a decisive Democratic victory will finalize the Republican Party's slide into becoming a minor party Federally, a lackluster Democratic victory will maintain the status quo and a Republican victory, no matter how great, will revive them and may even fuel a victory in the '12 elections.

I honestly have not looked at the situation in my state too much yet, but being in Maryland, I fully expect for us to vote the Democrat in either way. That doesn't mean I won't voice my opinion and there is no way I will vote for someone who I don't believe in.

As for the nation, I think it is pretty clear that the Republicans will be winning a net amount of seats and the Democrats will be losing them. I just hope those Republicans stick to the party's true ideals of small government, personal freedom, etc. If not, at least we'll have a more balanced government in terms of party lines [with a Republican victory], which tends to lead to less spending historically.

I'm going to agree with you here but the party platform seems to now be if you're not white and a Tea Partier, you're a RINO even if you're social conservative and libertarian. Hell they've even started purging the party (see Florida's governor, Sen. McCain, ect.) ether by forcing them out or by sabotaging their campaigns/administrations. You can be a conservative but at this point being a Conservative or Liberation (note the capitalization, I'm talking political parties not ideologies) is probably better for your sanity and political well being. The RNC has gone quasi fascist over the past 2 years and no self-respecting conservative should want to associate with them anymore.

I disagree on the part about the libertarians and social conservatives- I actually think they are MORE accepting of them now. The reduced support for McCain, etc. is due to a return to a more libertarian and a more conservative ideal. Let's face it, McCain isn't exactly a real conservative.

No (how can anyone that votes with Bidden be) but try to argue for the raising of taxes, a reduction in spending, a downsizing of the military and fewer 'security' measures and see how fast you get thrown out of the Republican Party, never mind that I just described the conservative presidencies of Eisenhower and Reagan.

Did you mean an increase in spending?

But no one is throwing anyone out of the party here. It is just people are sick and tired of some of the current leaders not following through on their promises, etc. Kicking someone out of office is very different than kicking them out of the party.

Raising spending isn't a conservative view. They may have done so but I wasn't talking about them, marly pointing out that they, ruling as conservatives, advocated such policies.

Screwing with their ability to rule just because they think the poor should be helped and that taxes need to go up so that they can't keep any of their promises and then denying them any support come election time is trowing them out of the party. What more, short of simply shooting them all, can the RNC do to purge the party? They even came up with a ideological purity test! A test someone like Ron Paul would fail miserably.

I think you meant to say an increase in spending, instead of reduction in spending.

Is it not the people's right to vote for who they feel is right? There are a lot of Democrats who will lose seats to other Democrats too. This is the nature of elections. They aren't being thrown out of the party though- McCain will still be registered as a Republican unless HE decides he no longer wants to. Where the money goes in terms of aid is heavily reliant on political alliances and individual donations- again who people think would be a good leader. It isn't all about throwing out the old though- a clear example is in Kentucky, where status quo Grayson got tons of money and charity drives from some big names in Washington. The party initially threw their support to him, but thankfully the people of Kentucky out-did the political circle and got Rand Paul through to win the nomination.

What more, short of simply shooting them all, can the RNC do to purge the party? They even came up with a ideological purity test! A test someone like Ron Paul would fail miserably.
But again, no one is kicking them out of the party or purging them from the party- they are just being voted out. As for have a platform- both parties have them. If there is no idealogical substance behind a party, then why even have the party? Just to make political connections? Each party has a set of values it stands for, there is no doubt about that. In America it is kind of fuzzy since there are only 2 parties and both have wide ranges of people in them, but if you look at other countries, each party often has very rigid goals and ideologies.

And Europe ends up with far left socialist parties that hand out goodies that can't afford (mind you I'm a socialist) and fascist parties that make hitler look nice in their proposed policies. Anything in the middle is so centralist that they can't get anything done and are paralyzed by PC. Having an ideological base is fine. Having a black and white ideology kills politics and leads to socio-economic and cultural stagnation

But as I said, it still isn't anywhere near that European level and there are members that don't adhere to every party line, who still get support even from the RNC. You brought up Ron Paul, who is a great example.

Ron Paul's base is libertarian, liberal-centralist and to a lesser extent socialists (myself as well as Sen. Sanders for example). He's a cardholding Republican as the (R) helps win elections but outside of some (and only some at this point) elements of the Tea Party, the RNC doesn't support him favoring more aggressive and authoritarian types like Dick Cheney. I understand that you have loyalty to the Republican Party for your history with it and want to hold on to Rightist RINO's like Ron Paul because they uphold true conservative values but the fact is the RNC of today isn't the RNC of the 80s/90s and certainly isn't the RNC of the 1860's when being a conservative and a socialist at the same time was not only possible but acceptable (Abraham Lincoln anyone?).

I will be voting for Rick Synder in Michigan, I believe he can truly break us out of this rut that we are in. I have not really looked into more candidates across Michigan though, then again no one has really expressed themselves that much.

As close as we're getting, that's about to change. Hopefully, we'll have a better gov't this time around... I'm not holding my breath. ;)

I'm jumping ship from the Republicans this time

With the nomination of car dealer Scott Rigell as the Republican candidate in Virginia's 2nd Congressional district, and the track record of incumbent Democrat Glenn Nye, my vote is going to independent candidate Kenny Golden. Rigell gave $1,000 to Barack Obama's campaign in 2008, and Nye voted for Nancy Pelosi to be Speaker of the House. Golden supports the FairTax, unlike both of his opponents, and has more national security experience than his two opponents combined.
