OK, so we were having problems with internet speeds widely fluctuating, too slow at times. So service guy can out. He did what he could to improve the AT&T supplied modem speed, but basically said they are pretty crappy. Then said if I use my own modem, we could have much better results. He specifically said to get a "Nighthawk model 1900 or better". So I got one (not cheap). But it would not work on their system.
Turns out that modem needed must have BOTH a cable input and a WAN input. The one recommended had only cable input. So I search & search online with no success. Found a bunch with cable input and a bunch with a WAN input, but NOBODY apparently make one with BOTH inputs. Apparently, the AT&T modem is custom made for just them. So I'm STUCK with their crappy modem.
