State questions/propositions

What state questions or propositions are being voted on in your state in this election and how do you feel about them?

We have quite a few in Maryland this time with the biggest ones being the following:

Question 5 on redistricting- I plan on voting no, we have one of the most convoluted district setups in the country as is and this is another push by the Democrats to ensure Republicans have an even lower shot at winning than they already do here. Congressman Bartlett is especially targeted in this due to how it affects his district. The proposed map is just absurd and I don't think any party should be gerrymandering to win votes- redistricting should be more about letting less represented groups gain a fair voice, not the other way around.

Question 6 on legalizing gay marriage- yes.

Question 7 on letting our current slots places add table games (and making 1 new one in PG county)- yes- a lot of that money is going out of state right now (namely WV) as is. It can be a big boost to the economy and the revenue will help Maryland schools.

We have but one here in KY:

"Are you in favor of amending the Kentucky
constitution to state that the citizens of Kentucky
have the personal right to hunt, fish, and harvest
wildlife, subject to laws and regulations that
promote conservation and preserve the future of
hunting and fishing, and to state that public
hunting and fishing shall be a preferred means
of managing and controlling wildlife?"

Though I do not hunt, and have little free time to fish...I support the freedom of others to do so, and we have a good history of being a good steward of wildlife outside of coal.

Voting Yes.

And this is why we outlawed Gerrymandering (even if the Republicans did their damndest to ignore the constitution, thank god for the Supreme Court).

Most of our proposals are ether redundancies of Federal law or irrelevant as they violate Federal law and thus would have no legal standing. I think we have all of 3 legit proposals out of 25 or so. lol

Look at this nonsense:

Even Comedy Central poked fun at it as the ugliest Congressional district in the US.

We had a district (not even a 1/2 mile wide in places) that stretched from Just north of Orlando to Jacksonville made up of over 90% party line Republican voters. South Florida was just as bad but drawn to be near 100% Democrat. Not sure how we managed to slip it past the state gov't but in '10 we managed to amend the constitution requiring districts to respect county and geological boundaries and to be roughly square shaped and compact.

Allen West didn't like having his district go from totally Republican to a 60/40 split in favor of the Democrats and so bought a house in my city so he could run in the new District 22 which is Republican leaning and (so he hoped) ignorant of his record. Hopefully this kind of thing will be noted by voters and outlawed (Say by making the residency requirement 3 years?) in the Midterms.

Texas
There are several props in Texas that involve counties taking, taxing or otherwise coercing people to sell or develop derelict property, I don't care about that

Bonds to increase funds going to secondary education, -yes

Bonds to increase funds to improve sewer and drainage. -yes

Apparently Minnesota is voting on whether to define marriage as between a man and a woman while three other states vote to legalize gay marriage. Sigh...

Stupid. I love when people tell me about "traditional" marriage. I then point out pre-Christian Rome's gay emperor's marriage, all the polygamist marriages in the Torah, the insetual marrages of the pre-Christan/Muslim Egyptians , etc. and then ask, "So who redefined marriage again?"

Minnesota ended up voting no on that thankfully and I think all the states voting on gay marriage said yes- I know Maryland did. We also voted yes on question 4,5,and 7. Not happy about 5.

On another note, Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana- the next big wave of change?

Wish Florida had that on the ballot. Being able to walk down the street burning a blunt like it was a cigarette and not have the cops mess with me would be nice.

Haha, I don't know if legalization means you can do that though- depends on the law (I don't know the details in Colorado or Washington). Still gotta watch out for the Feds either way.

True but the Feds aren't the cops driving down neighborhood streets (unless there's a drug bust going down in which case they're pretty obvious). Legalization is just that. Nobody at the state level and below would be able to do anything.

True. I guess the bigger issue would be for the sellers rather than the individual buyers.

Not sure about municipal police in Florida, but many of my coworkers left drug enforcement because out was like vice police, putting people in jail for smoking seemed a waste. Drug enforcement is a strange beast perhaps I could make a thread on it.
