Nearly every indicator suggest that Democrats are going to do very well in the midterms, although they are unlikely to retake the Senate. Democrats are seeing a massive new wave of candidates, including females, lgbtq, and veterans. The report also notes that Trump's endorsement is very much prone to increasing a Republican's chances of obtaining the nomination in the primary, but his approval rating amongst Democrats and Independents make that support unlikely to further help the chances of those candidates in November. Is Donald Trump a drag on the Party going forward?

Is President Trump a drag on the Republican Party? That is an interesting question. There is a good chance the Democrats will get the House in 2018. The Senate? Almost impossible. If the Democrats get the House is that a sign that Trump has failed?

Bill Clinton experienced the Republican Revolution, George W Bush had the Thumping, and Barack H Obama had the Shellacking. Were they failures? All three of those presidents were re-elected.

Since you did not answer the poll I am not sure if you think he will be a drag or if he will not.

I do not think President Trump will be a drag on the Republican Party. I’m on TapatalkPro today, polls do not show up when using it.

Clinton was impeached, W was, until Trump, almost universally held as the worst president in modern history and Obama's only real achievement (pre-midterm) was the ACA.

No, George W Bush is not universally held to be the worst president. Universally indicated that it’s more than all the Democrats that feel that way. I think Bush was a fine President.

It’s a shame that with a huge majority in both houses the only accomplishment was the ACA.

W was despised by the end of his term. Rock bottom 'approval' rating, a massive Blue Wave then led to single party rule once Obama was elected, Repubs denying ever voting for him, etc. The man was so disgraced that rather than going on book tours, being paid top dollar to give speeches, getting hired as a high powered lobbiest, etc. he took up water painting and mostly disappeared from the public eye.

So yes, as close to universally despised (politically) as you'll get this side of Hitler in Israel.

Interesting. You are right, that the Democrats were in the cat bird seen in 2009. They had a huge majority in both houses of Congress, they controlled the White House. What happened? First came the midterm shellacking where they lost the House. Obama did get reelected but they lost the Senate. Then his handpicked successor, went down. Former President George W Bush had the class to stay out of politics after leaving office. He was very clear when he said that being president is a hard enough job that he would not answer any questions about how President Barack H Obama was doing. Too bad Obama doesn't have that class.

Actually, Carter remained the worse (remember stagflation and malaise?), until Obama came along. O still remains at the top of the worst list.

George W? How so? We had a record continuous period of FULL employment under him. I suspect Trump could break that record, should he win a 2nd term.

I liked George W. Bush. I voted for him and would proudly tell anyone that throughout his term.

The left succeeded in infecting some with their horrid disease, but not all.

Thankfully the same tactics they used on Bush are not working with Trump.

The left tried to blame Bush for The Great Recession. In reality, the Dems insisting on easing requirements for home loans to those that in no way had any business buying a home, who could in no way afford to pay back a loan caused it. Bush fought tooth and nail the easing, w/o success. Had things gone his way, the GR would not have happened, or at least been much milder, as we were due for one, due to natural business cycles.

When I was a kid you needed 20% down to buy a house. People saved for that downpayment. Far fewer people "walked away" from those house notes.

Those were the "good ole days", when people took responsibility for their actions, whether forced (by a big personal loss) or not.
