What will be the benefits of this for Palestine without a certain border area and even a government ?

This may a de fact two-state solution which both camps have to live with and the Palestinian state will exist as an autonomous state within Israel just like the Vatican without threatening Israel's security and the original UN Resolution which partitioned the British Mandate for Palestine may have been finally implemented but Palestine cannot expect to gain full independence in the near future because the territorial issue in the West Bank can never be resolved. Israel will refrain from major military operations against Palestine which now has access to the ICC and Hamas could be undermined by the diplomatic victory that strengthened the PA's authority.

This is a symbolic victory, that's all this is. The General Assembly is pretty toothless. The only way this makes any sense to me is if the Palestinians plan to use this new "nationhood" status to justify openly bringing in "outside" help in their dust up with Israel.

I didn't expect it to be such an overwhelming majority. We'll see what happens now...

75% of the world recognizes Palestinian independence and you didn't see n overwhelming pro-Palestinian vote? :giggle:

for me, I think this is a victory for the people and also an end to Hamas now that Palestine is a country and achieved their victory without the use of terrorist means, maybe the hammas will gain importance and menas speech israel to end terrorists will no longer sound like an affront to the Palestinian state but rather as a "war on terror" as the U.S. did in Afghanistan.
