US lawmakers have released $88.6m (£56m) in development aid for the Palestinians that has been frozen for more than six months.
The move comes after two senior Republicans from the House of Representatives dropped their opposition to freeing the funds.
One of them, Rep Illeana Ros-Lehtinen, said the money must not go to the Gaza Strip, which is run by Hamas.

Good, we shouldn't be moved by Israeli politics.
No we should be moved by being broke. We are screwing over old and sick Americans. We are not taking care of our wounded military due to being broke. But we keep borrowing money and giving it away.

Aid makes up a little over 0% of our budget. Want to save money? Cut the DoD by 50%.

Ever noticed we give "aid" to both sides? It all adds up.

Cut the defense budget by 50% and it hurts our military. I remember when we cut defense so far we damn near had to start over. It will take years and money to repair and replace what we used up in the last 10 years. Unless we want to just hope the worldwide love of the US will protect us.

50% of the current US military budget is $349,000,000,000. The combined military budget of the next 4 spenders is $355,900,000,000, just $6,900,000,000 more. Of those 2 are allies and all 4 militaries operate independently of each other. We can afford the cuts.

So being able to smash China and Russia (assuming no occupation) with 50% less money means we can't afford cuts? :giggle:
Got nothing to do with China and Russia. But 50% cuts is too much. We tried that back in the late 70s.

If we can't afford to treat our military like they deserve now, what happens to them with less? We have used up so much stuff in the last 10 years I am not sure we could stop China or Russia from smashing us anymore. I don't believe we are truly a "Super Power" anymore. I think it is a bluff. Hell we can't can't smash these little countries anymore. We just fight until we get tired and quit.

$91,050,000,000 can be cut by slashing the construction (no new bases) and R&D (preventing over budget and delayed projects) in 1/2. You could probably cut construction even more and limiting fraud reduces personnel without actually cutting anything legit (I can't offer $ amounts as I don't know how much money is missing).

If this were on Facebook, there would be a thumbs-up with the words 'Hamas and Palestinian militants like this' next to it.
