This was one a number of events that led up to the civil war. There was a depression: banks collapsed, factories shut down, people lost farms, etc. Some food riots broke out - in one case in new york, a flour warehouse was attacked by hundreds of people, just so they could at least eat bread.

With the US still stuck with the Great Annointed Leader, the "historic" president still around till jan 2013, I wonder if things will get worse fast enough that such riots, or general anarchy, will break out once more.

Me neither, but when people don't have even food, all bets are off. In LA the other day, the congressional black caucus held a job fair for blacks - 10,000 showed up - 100 got jobs.

I would guess many more just did not bother to try.
