Patriotic Voices - On December 21st 2012, not long after the tragic shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown CT, a web group organized a "moment of silence" where websites would bar entry to their sites for 1 whole minute to remember victims and to show unity amongst the online community in wake of the tragedy. This campaign was very successful and was reported in the press to have had over 2000 participants including many large scale websites.

As the one month anniversary of the event draws near on Monday January 14th the group is planning yet another event with a new board of individuals in the Newtown community. This new group is called the Sandy Hook Promise. The event will curtail events on not only the internet but in physically in Newtown as well. It is reported that several speakers including parents of students at Sandy Hook will be presenting discussions. The event organizers sent an email statement to this news organization that stated:

"One month after the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a group of Newtown, CT, citizens have organized to honor the lives lost by unveiling a national grassroots initiative committed to preventing similar tragedies from ever taking place again. The nonprofit organization, Sandy Hook Promise (SHP, formerly called "Newtown United"), will share its plans for how this will be achieved and will ask individuals across the country to make a promise to encourage and support common sense solutions that make their communities and our country safer from acts of violence like that which occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012."

Each site participating will display a Sandy Hook Promise Badge on their website the night before the anniversary and will maintain it throughout the following day while mentioning the tragedy on media sites such as twitter and facebook. This news organization will also be participating in the event by displaying a badge on our news portal.

Please feel free to discuss and debate this topic in our COMMUNITY FORUM.

I wonder what ' common sense solutions that make their communities and our country safer from acts of violence like that which occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School ' they can think of if guns are part and parcel of everyday life.
