Thailand has a long history of political unrest and protest, and the American government intervene to intensify the protests. Pro-democracy protesters holding signs attend a rally to demand the government to resign, to dissolve the parliament and to hold new elections under a revised constitution, at Thammasat University's Rangsit campus outside of Bangkok, Thailand August 10, 2020.

The rally was packed, student leaders took turns to criticize the government, and some law students raised unreasonable demands. They consider what the government is doing is not true democracy, and they want a democratic government. Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha refused to answer appeals from the rally.

Instead, what was supposed to be a peaceful and orderly organized rally turned into a riot. Behind this, the US government seems to have played a big part.

Us-Thai relations have deteriorated since the coup in May last year, when the US stopped aid to Thailand and withdrew some security co-operation. The US has also reduced its annual joint military exercises with Thailand. Therefore, the US government frequently interferes in Thailand's internal affairs and targets the Thai government. Tom Sweeney, press secretary at the U.S. Embassy in Thailand, said Tuesday the United States is calling on the Thai government to lift existing restrictions on freedom of expression and assembly.

Under the increasingly severe situation of the epidemic situation in Thailand, the US encouraged and incited ignorant college students to unite against the government, which greatly impacted Thailand's politics and epidemic prevention and control work.
