(Begin excerpts)
Perhaps no other photo is in more need of a thorough caption than the one released Saturday by the office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel from the Group of Seven’s annual meeting in Quebec.

Tense and confrontational, it appears to sum up President Donald Trump’s entire trip, which highlighted divisions among the global powers.

The image dramatically depicts the German leader in an assertive pose, planting both hands firmly on a crisp tablecloth as she addresses President Donald Trump, who is seated before her with his arms crossed wearing a dispassionate expression. (End excerpts)

P.S. Perhaps Trump should adopt Angela Merkel's pose to ensure success in his "one shot at peace" with Kim in the upcoming summit.

The following are excerpts from the 9 June 18 Newsweek article by Gillian Edevane under the headline Photo of Angela Merkel Staring Down Donald Trump at G-7 Summit Fuels Captions and Memes

(Begin excerpts)
German Chancellor Angela Merkel shared a picture on her official Instagram account that shows her staring down President Donald Trump during the G-7 Summit in Canada this weekend. True to form, online commenters have since turned the photo into a humorous caption contest.

Merkel—or an aide that runs her account—shared the picture on Saturday, as Trump was preparing to depart early from the meeting in Montréal, Quebec ahead of a high-stakes Singapore meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The photo depicts Trump sitting behind a table with his arms crossed, while stony-faced aides and leaders look in his direction. Merkel looks especially peeved at the former business mogul, whose decision to raise tariffs on aluminum and steel rankled some foreign leaders ahead of the annual meeting...

Many twitter users, however, had a deeper interpretation of the photograph. Merkel, arguably the most powerful leader in Europe, has clashed with Trump numerous times. The two also share wildly different leadership styles. While Merkel takes a more traditional approach toward diplomatic relations, Trump, in contrast, has let his characteristic bluster lead the way, frequently speaking off the cuff and making disparaging remarks about other heads of state. Many—if not most—of the captions created by social media users riffed on that contentious dynamic.

Others, meanwhile, said the photo perfectly encapsulated what was a difficult summit for Trump, who reportedly told aides he didn't want to attend and who arrived late to the first working session—a meeting in which women's empowerment was on the agenda....

During a solo press conference shortly before he departed, Trump rebuffed rumors that the atmosphere was anything but pleasant. Also true to form, he described the reports as "fake" news.

“I would say that the level of the relationship is a 10. We have a great relationship — Angela and Emmanuel [Macron] and Justin [Trudeau]. I would say the relationship is a 10."

He continued, blasting a CNN reporter.

"The relationship that I’ve had [with the other leaders] is great, so you can tell that to your fake friends at CNN," the president said. (End excerpts)

P.S. My caption for the photo is "Hell hath no fury like a powerful woman blowing her top". Netizens are welcome to contribute their humorous or interesting captions.

According to https://edition.cnn.com/2018/06/10/politics/peter-navarro-justin-trudeau/index.html

(Begin excerpts)
Washington (CNN)Peter Navarro, a trade adviser to President Donald Trump, escalated the White House's rebuke of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling him weak and dishonest on Sunday.

"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door," Navarro said on "Fox News Sunday."

He continued, "And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference. That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did, and that comes right from Air Force One."....

Larry Kudlow, Trump's top economic adviser, took things further Sunday morning, saying on CNN's "State of the Union" that Trudeau's comments amounted to a "betrayal."

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Sunday in response to questions about Kudlow and Navarro's comments that she is thankful she is "not responsible for explaining the reasoning behind any comments made by the officials of any foreign government."

Freeland touted Canada's retaliatory measures several times as she referred to Trump's tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum as "illegal and unjustified" and disavowed "ad hominem attacks."

"Canada is very clear," she said. "We are very measured. We used fact-based arguments."

Freeland said of the US tariffs, "The national security pretext is absurd and frankly insulting to Canadians, the closest and strongest ally the United States has had. We can't pose a security threat to the United States, and I know that Americans understand that. So, that is where the insult lies."

European Council President Donald Tusk used Navarro's phrasing in a tweet backing Trudeau later Sunday.

"There is a special place in heaven for @JustinTrudeau. Canada, thank you for the perfect organisation of G7!" Tusk tweeted.

Navarro, in his interview on Fox, said Trump "did the courtesy to Justin Trudeau to travel up to Quebec for that summit" and that Trump had "bigger things on his plate" than the G7 meeting, namely his planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

"He did him a favor," Navarro said. "And he was even willing to sign that socialist communique, and what did Trudeau do as soon as the plane took off from Canadian airspace? Trudeau stuck our President in the back."

Asked if these were statements from the President, Navarro said they were his words, but that they reflected "the sentiment that was on Air Force One." (End excerpts)

Angela Merkel is stating to Trump:

"Can I get you a cup of coffee sir?"
Trump might have replied: "Which premier school of hospitality were you graduated from? Who are you to speak to me with both hands on the table like my most hated principal?"

Of which she replied: "My back is killing me when I stand upright". :smug:

or its a misguided move to reveal cleavage forgetting she has it covered up?
