Are you a Liberal or Conservative?

I'm supposedly 52% (I guess leaning towards 0% means liberal and 100% as conservative), making me a centrist. However, I had a few N/A answers (because this is American-related stuff and I'm from Canada). Of the things they list that I do support, here are some from both Liberal and Conservative sides.

- Are wary of American arrogance and hypocrisy.
- Trace much of today's anti-American hatred to previous US foreign policies
- Encourage US participation in the UN.
- Supporting the 0.7% GDP-foreign aid goal (not on list). Canada is at at a measly 0.3% and the US is even lower at 0.15%.

(actually, I don't support any of the Conservative things listed, but here are things that might be considered conservative)

- I believe in surpluses (the government's version of a net profit).
- I do not support the legalization of recreational drugs such as marijuana, mainly because I don't trust people who want it legalized, and also because to legalize it, you have to heavily regulate marijuana making sure it it's at least 99.5% pure.

Here are a few things that might not be considered liberal or conservative that I support.

- I don't support traditional welfare. To help the slums out, it's cheaper and more effective to reach out to the small/local business to get them to hire, both educated and troubled. Then, it's easier to just buy a homeless guy a small place to live and fund programs to get them a job rather than giving them just pure money.
- I support increased spending in making public schools stronger. That way, we'll have more strong taxpayers.
- I support mandatory voting. I don't get why some people take democracy in the western world for granted. However, the only way to achieve this is if you can educate the kids in politics from a neutral standpoint, perhaps giving the democrats and republicans equal attention while giving other fringe parties a chance as well.

I started to take that so called test. The further along I got the more I realized that the test was designed to cause people to answer in a liberal way. Out of fear of being anti-sympathetic to the poor etc. The opinions were written in a way to discredit conservative views.

Ditto. I am not a big fan of these tests anyway since there are wayyy too many issues to ask in a short little quiz (not to mention that the definitions of conservative, liberal, etc. vary) but I tried taking it as well until the same thing happened to me.

Also, for some of the questions, I had responses which were not represented by an option.

Isn't that centrism?

Fine then, just do some other one. Obviously, Canadian/British conservatism would be different from American conservatism, so I find we need to find an international standard to what's what.

This one's more fair.

PC is the best test I've been able to find. I'll try this 1 as well.

Ya... Biased much?

"Healthcare is fine. The rich deserve the best healthcare and the poor deserve none. I would not support universal healthcare because it leaves a level playing field for everyone and causes taxes to be raised."

Really? And then there's "In ’08 do you see yourself voting for…?" Can you say, "Out of date?"

Yeah, both fail at posting legit tests. I would say I am a moderate for the most part. Fiscal and monetary policy usually conservative, social rights usually more liberal with the exception of healthcare.

Socially, I tend toward conservative, economically, socialist. An odd mix, I know.

Like SpayandNeuterLibs I started taking the test but after just a few questions realized that the wording of the test was such that a liberal oriented answer was usually the choice I was being steered toward. The language was in no way neutral as to the choices.

This test was good in one way. It showed how polls can be constructed so as to receive the desired responses.

Well to be perfectly fair, you can complain about something that leans liberal, but do you ever say something about FOX News? To me, a conservative bias is just as bad as a liberal bias.

What does Fox News have to do with this discussion or this poll? Any bias Fox News may have has no relevance to this discussion and because of that is nothing more than a red herring and a logical fallacy.

I don't know why I took the test, considering all i want to do now is go to bed. I didn't like the lack of options, but it often happens when you have views like mine. I often end up saying "Government" should do something, when i don't believe that at all. It's very very different. And i wouldn't vote for any of those people, tbh.

Apparently:

68% liberal

20% conservative

12% centrist

Obviously, i'm none of these things. I'm definitely less conservative than that, for a start. I'm not a centrist, i'm biased massively to the far left, and frankly, liberals are sissies. ;)

I suppose that's what you get when you take a "liberal or conservative" test. Haha!

As I said, PC is the only good political test I know of. That's what you get when only Americans are bored enough to make these kinds of tests. :p

What? If you don't like Fox News conservative views, stop watching. As simple as that.
