An extended stay motel that has been having inspection issues for over a year was closed this week. The media is making it seem like no one had any notice this place was a dump. There are numerous failed inspection reports posted, as you enter the motel lobby. The issues were discovered after a big drug bust. The biggest part of the problem? Cooking in the rooms and not disposing of the trash which has led to bug infestations. While this seems like a cut and dry, bad landlord situation, the owner of the extended stay motel bought it and has been trying to rehabilitate it room by room. The tenants haven't been helping as they continue to have illegal cooking devices in their rooms. This isn't the type of place that provides maid service.

Who is in the wrong here? The owner? The county? The residents?

"Scores of families in Bartow County are now homeless following the indefinite suspension of an extended-stay motel’s permit Tuesday.

Upwards of 200 people were informed by the management of the Budgetel Inn at 35 Carson Loop that they had 24 hours to vacate the premises following a failed Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) inspection.

According to DPH documentation, the motel was cited for “unapproved cooking equipment,” “infestation of roaches and flies” and “furnishings not being kept up.”

By 4 p.m., Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputies and code enforcement vehicles were already on the property." - The Daily Tribune News

Obviously you cannot leave an unsafe location to maintain status quo. The County could be liable.

The county closed it. They issued a mandatory eviction. The residents are mad.
