Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said Friday that he believes legislation protecting special counsel Robert Mueller could pass the Senate, if Republican leadership would agree to bring it up for a vote."

"I do believe the votes are there on the floor if we can just get a vote, and that's what I'm calling, let's just have a vote," Flake told CNN, asked about a measure that would protect Mueller from being fired without good cause."

"The legislation — crafted by Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Christopher Coons (D-Del.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) — has languished for months after it passed out the Judiciary Committee. Republican leadership argues it isn't necessary because President Trump, they believe, will not try to interfere with or fire Mueller

Given Flake is one vote, Tillis and Graham two more, seems Flake is correct

But the best part is that Mitch isn't allowing it because he believes what Trump says that he has no intention of firing Muller, that needs repeating, cause Mitch believes what Trump says. Outside of Fox viewers, few in America believe anything that Trump says, but Mitch, who is a smart guy, is really basing his reasoning on what Trump says?

Seems Mitch has caught Trump's aversion to honesty

What does it take to pass this proposed bill into law? Fifty percent of the House will have to vote "aye". Then 60 senators will have to vote to invoke cloture, and 50 or 51 senators will have to vote to pass the bill (depending upon if Vice President Mike Pence is for or against). Then the president has to be willing sign it. If he vetos it, it will take 2/3rds of the House and Senate to pass it over his veto.

On another note, if the Democrats and Republicans were to unite and pass this over a presidential veto, it would be a significant move. It is not something that has never happened. Nixon had 7 vetos overridden, Ford had 12, Carter had 2, Reagan had 9, Bush had 1, Clinton had 2, Bush had 4, Obama had 1. President Trump has 0 vetos to date in his presidency. Bush and Obama both had 12 during their 8 years.
