Anyone seen the new movie? I didn't like how they executed the ending (obvious plot armor involved) but this was by far my favorite Star Wars movie.

I'm planning to go to the movie theatre by the end of the month but I don't expect Rogue One surpassing Episode VII in its magnitude. I'm dying to see what happened after Luke met Rey in the last movie, which would be in the next Star Wars film.

Spoiler*** Don't read any further if you don't want info revealed***

Ok I was gobsmacked at the ending because the whole time I was watching I was thinking the main character was going to turn out to be Princess Liea?

Were they trying to trick us with that?

Why did you think that? Leia was totally irrelevant except to set up for ANH. Jyn was the focus of the story in human terms. I'd argue Stardust was the true main character.

I don't read the books so I'm limited to the movies themselves.

Watching the previews I knew she would be on Darth Vader's ship, and within the Death Star timeframe plus I noticed that pictures of the actress and that her facial features strongly resembled a young carrie fisher. So the whole time I watched Rogue one, I'm thinking they're going to reveal that this girl is a young princess leia.

SPOILERS

That WAS a young Carrie Fisher, they CGIed her face onto the actress playing the part. And what are you talking about books for? Leia never had anything to do with the R1 mission aside from getting the plans as established in ANH's opening craw. The only way you could think otherwise is if you WERE familiar with the EU. Saw for example had a far more meaningful death for me becuase he was an established bad ass that even Vader (who knew him from his Jedi days) was a little scared of. Leia was a big deal in the rebellion but only those that follow the EU would know that.

Of course, I know that was Carrie Fisher in the end.

I'm saying that as I was watching the movie, I had suspected that Jyn was going to turn out to be princess Leia in the early years. In other words that whole time I was watching my framework was "They are going to reveal how this girl is princess leia when she was young."

Am I making myself clear? :(

It wasn't until Jyn's alluded death and follow up revelation of Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) on the ship that I was like, "Oh ok , I guess this wasn't a story of princess Leia after all".

R1 ends about 12 hours before ANH starts... Did you not realize that?

you mean rogue one ends about 12 hours before star wars starts?

Sure, I figured that at the end when the disc gets handed to leia which she will insert into r2d2 and say "help me obiwan you're my only hope..."

I still contend, they shouldn't have cast a woman to play jyn that has the same facial bone structure of Carrie Fisher. (and I'm not referring to the actual carrie fisher at the end).

You really didn't know that going into the movie? :giggle: That whole 2 hours most have been all sorts of confusing.

This is why I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that isn't a star wars fan already. It claims to be a stand alone but there are so many characters that don't seem to mean anything without the EU (Did anyone that didn't watch The Clone Wars cartoon care about Saw's death?) and the ending loses all sorts of impressiveness if you don't know anything about ANH.
