Tecoyah, I'm less interested in complaints not accompanied with some possibly feasible solution. Refer to the fist post of the thread,

Virtually ever item for sale by Trump or his daughter could be produced in the United States. The profit margin might be slightly less but the quality likely better. They simply prefer the extra dollar over the better quality and this thread is meant to point that out along with hypocrisy.

Cost vs profit. Anything can be made by anybody you just need the machinery and raw materials. Market reseach will determine your positioning and/or niche/customer base then its down to marketing, distribution and outlet.

Designer goods being the best example I guess - you pay more for them but they are of a higher quality and they last longer. We get clothes in the markets in London (Camden Market is brilliant) and these tend to be locally produced. Designer goods tend to have good profit margins but they are aimed at a specific class of consumer.

I'm proponent of the global trade policy described within Wikipedia's “Import Certificates” article.
It is a self-funding and substantially market driven unilateral policy.

Tecoyah, the Import Certificate policy recognizes that although commercial enterprises and the nation's best interests are usually similar, there are identifiable circumstances where they diverge.
USA's Annual trade deficits have and will continue to be to our nation's net economic detriment. To some extent it reduces our GDP and it particularly reduces our numbers of jobs and hours of employment.

[Price is certainly among the attributes of goods and service products being purchased. Individual purchasers benefit from cheaper products produced by lower priced foreign labor].

The The Import Certificate policy does not tolerate their nation's trade deficit of goods, is not applicable to scarce or precious mineral materials, and to the extent that its net costs exceed government's administrative costs, (i.e. its net price increases due tho markets' behaviors), it behaves as price subsidies for its nation's exports. Its entire net costs are passed on the the nation's purchasers of Imported goods. Due to the policy's substantially market driven character, the policy cannot prevent an effective national demand for a product being satisfied.

All this does not change the fact that Trump is a hypocrite --- but that is hardly news.
