As you may or may not know the Mayan calendar has cryptic inscriptions on it and many other notable people such as Nostradamus have apocalyptic predictions for the year.

However, you should note that historians who have studied the Mayan calendar say that it has all been completely blown out of proportion and made up.

I find it interesting but have to agree with the historians. What do you think?

Nothing is going to happen. This is just a crazy theory from people who have nothing better to do than try to get people scared with these myths. For those whole believe in this, expect a similar feeling as you did on January 1st, 2000.

Yeah. It will probably just be Y2K all over again.

The funny thing is that I've heard actual historians stating that the Mayan's didn't think the world was going to end. It was just the end of an age. They would have supposedly just had a celebration and made a new calender.

I doubt anything bad will occur on 2012, or at least anything to do with the actual calender. People just love to feed on these myths to forget about present day problems and others use it as a means of profit. I remember when 9/11 occurred, shirts and posters related to it, sold quite well.

Nothing is going to happen, its going to be just like 2000. Except at least this time we wont sped billions of dollars to fix stuff that doesn't need to be fixed.

The whole theory was made by a bunch of nutjobs who did not or could not properly read history. The end of the calendar year is something the Myans celebrate. They aren't prophesying any doom, its just the end of a cycle.

Damn, I've seen threads relating to this subject on every single forum I visit.. lol.

And I agree with the general responses.. if the world were to actually end in 2012, do you really think there will be schools right now? Why do you think there are so many people in highschool studying all day long, just to find out they will die before they even get a job? And why wouldn't this be on the news? Sure some may say it's because it's still only a "theory and has yet not proven", well I actually have nothing to say against that lol.. again, this is only a theory, and 99% chance it's not going to be real. Just because the caledar days end on someone's useless calendar, it doesn't mean the world's going to end.. Mayans totally owned themselves, they will have a shitty reputation on Christmas day on 2012..

There was a whole article explaining things about this, I'll post it here once I find it (it's the first time I heard of this non-sense, probably in mid 2008).

And remember all the conspiracy theories saying the world will end in 2000, 2004, etc.? Were they true? nope!

And I'm sure the celebration would have included the ever popular Heart cut out or if it rained, the slicing to death or shot full of arrows. Then there is the crowd pleaser, throwing a six year old off the top of the temple. Those Mayan's, not very good on human rights, but boy, could they make a calander!

I always preferred the Aztec version where they also threw the people down all the stairs for maximum blood letting. There was also supposed to be one (I think I read about) where they held a fake wedding and sacrificed the man and women together on the steps. Good times back then (if you were one of the Aztecs and not one of the tribes under their control).

My knowledge of Mayan sacrifice is a little sketchy though.

Hah, good one..

I also won't be surprised if some marketing teams start to abuse this concept by having "buy now before the world ends" sales once we get closer to the year 2012.

I can definitely see that happening during 2011's Christmas season..

There will be many things that will happen in 2012. For the best overall explanation you should check out a guy named David Wilcock. He is very knowledgable and if you listen to what he talks about with an open mind then you start to see that anything is possible. There is a movie coming out at the end of this year, 2012. It is from the same guy that made ID4 and I believe the main concept of the movie is scaring people into disasters that will take place all over the planet, massive cataclysms and so on. While I think this may be a possibility and may very well happen I believe it is a time where the planet awakens spiritually and moves into the next dimension. Maybe those that die will be people that are greedy and want humanity enslaved and those who live will be free thinkers and inventors of then new age.

EDIT: The David Wilcock thing you can see on google is called 'The 2012 Enigma'

The Mayans weren't the only culture who wrote of this date, the Sumerians and cultures all across the planet that had never met each other prophesised about this date. The ancients were very aware of the stars and we are not, if the ancients sat next to us and did an IQ test I'm sure they would kick our butts! I'm sure whatever happens humans will go on to live, I hope in a more peaceful way, with nature and everything.

Aztecs calender will end, Hopefully the world won't end, and stupid marketers won't run Adverts on tv, and there won't be TV shows with stuff promoting this, I hope it's just an error by these cultures, or they maybe were trying to scare cultures of present time, or either these cultures were much too lazy to keep on writing the calender, so they stoped :D, wierd cowincedence with all the cultures though.... I need to do some reasearch :p

Mayan civilization predicted their own end which was to happen in 2012, but as it stands their end came a little sooner then they had thought, HAHAHA!
January 1, 2012 It's gonna be just another boring day.

I'm going to probably graduate my masters degree in 2012. Other than that, not much. I mean, there have been countless times people have "predicted" the end of the earth and as far as I can tell, we're still here. 2012 is just some more hype... what I wonder is when this obsession with death and armageddon will end.
