mean how do u think we would really react.

1. white and black come together and gang up on green.

2. after one of their satelites are destroyed france cuts a deal (ww2 style) with the aliens and elects a puppet regime.

3. the arabs charge with derelict soviet space shuttles and go on the greatest suicide run in history

4. the most powerful christian nations in the west, russia and china get taking out fast and the refugees from these countries move to the third world and join with the rest of humanity in resistance and guerilla warfare, in subsaharan jungles, siberian tundras and north african deserts.

5. the church of scientology declares all religions are wrong, and we should worship the aliens as gods. the aliens then make tom cruises their prophet and charge him with exterminating and converting all other religious infidels to the church of scientology.

6. the aliens arrive on earth destroy the most powerful nations before catching a little cold that turns out to be deadly to their race thereby exterminating them. and leaving their advanced technology and out springs new powerful nations. in subsaharan africa arrives the bantu hegemony a xenophobic, restricted, neutral and isolated society. north africa and southern europe becomes the meditteranian alliance. asia and eastern russia becomes the ethnically diverse, siberia-mongolian empire. the rest of europe comes under control of the slavic union. the middle east and northern india comes under the control of the persian aryan nation. the rest of india extending all the way down to austarlia unites to become the dravidian-aboriginal republic, a free and democratic society. while canada mexico and usa unite to become the united tribes of north america an afro-amerindian society with strong indian, anglo and african influences. south america then becomes the new inca empire. and finally the carribean and bahamas and all the surrounding islands becomes the confederated islands of the carribean.

7. or the worst senario the most powerful nations agree to peaceful surrender and help the aliens hunt down their human brothers in the 2nd and third world for anal probing or whatever aliens do.

8. we launch our entire nuclear arsenal at them before they reach earth and destroy them and never knowing why they came here

9. billy bob gets out of his trailer with his 12 gauge and bible and tries to forcefully convert the aliens to cristianity. he then gets vapourized and the the aliens play their own version of cowboys and indians, but this time with the cowboys being the aliens and the indians being the human race.

10.one day everyone is chilling enjoying the planet and them there is a flash and just like that humanity and its civilizations cease to exist

so which do u think is the most likely. u can have more than one option

Super religious would do one of two things: 1) Embrace the aliens as their god(s) or 2) call for a holy war.

The remaining religions would crumble.

Scientists would have an eternal orgasim trying to learn as much from them as possible - probably to a point where the aliens would eliminate all scientists from the planet out of annoyance.

War lords would sell their mothers and children (that they haven't yet killed) for ammunition from the aliens.

Head gov't officials would create an elaborate plan on how to trick the aliens into getting all their goods.

The price of oil would skyrocket.

The Japanese would be jealous of their technology and try to sue them for "copying their designs".

The sense of fashion would change to a point where the way it is now would seem uber-conservative.

Aliens would add humans to their zoos (some by force, but most offered up by their respective gov'ts).

Stocks values in companies that make sunblock and anit-aging creams would increase dramatically.

The news' headlines would still be about football and/or Brad and Angie.

Bill Clinton would be busted trying to sneak into the females leader's ship.

GW will be busted trying to sneak into the female alien's liquor cabinet.

Gays would finally be allowed to legally marry in the USA.

Rush Limbaugh would finally be obsolete.

Howard Stern would claim the aliens are costing him ratings.

The Vatican will open its doors to single, male aliens to become priest.

None of the scenarios seem very likely to me. Extraterrestrial aliens would, in all probability, be extrasolar in origin. This would make them members of an interstellar civilization.
If you consider how far we are from having the technical means for interstellar travel, that would make them far more technologically advanced than we are.
If you look at the historical perspective on Earth, when a civilization encounters a civilization which is technologically far inferior, it is not a contest, it is slaughter or a facile conquest.
The best we could hope for in an encounter with a interstellar civilization as far is parity is concerned, is with a civilization which had recently acquired the technology of interstellar travel. That is an event with a very low degree of probability. It would still leave Earth in a position of great technical inferiority. It would place Earth in the position of being vulnerable to attack without the capability of counter attacking. It seems quite probable that at the bare minimum, the aliens would have the technology to make mass conversion weapons, probably far more sophisticated than our thermonuclear weapons.
We cannot imagine the technology that will emerge by the next century on Earth, yet it is probable that it will take at least a century before we have the capability to launch an interstellar invasion.
So the minimum technology of an interstellar civilization would be far beyond our technical capability.
As for a more developed interstellar civilization which would be far more probable, their technology would be magic to us. If they claimed to be God, we would believe it. There would be no conceivable means for us to defend against them. It would be like defending against God.
By the way, I tend to believe that it is probable that they are here, they just don?t want us to know it. This is not an UFO or X-files scenario, this is in the context of God like power. They wouldn?t need to come here to know us far better than we know ourselves. Their motive would be curiosity as to how a planetary civilization would evolve. To satisfy that curiosity, they would have to isolate us from other civilizations. This is one possible answer to Fermi?s question.
I realize that none of this allows for an enjoyable TV program or movie, so it is not a viewpoint most people are familiar with, but unfortunately, or more likely, fortunately, reality is not scripted in Hollywood.

I doubt how we react would much matter.

Well, unless they were really tiny and their invasion fleet got eaten by my cat.

In which cae our reaction still wouldn't matter.

So, there it is, plain as day. It just doesn't matter.

Close enough, and it illustrates my point. In Stargate the aliens can fool primitive people into believing that they are Gods, but not us. However, the alien?s civilization is an interstellar civilization which is one of several interstellar civilizations that?s been around for millennia. To them, we would be primitives.
The Stargate crew battles the aliens with FN Herstal P90s which are more effective than the alien?s staff weapons. This makes for an entertaining story. Of course, it?s absurd.
However, if the aliens knew everything that was happening on a planet, and could calculate everything that would happen in the near future, where would be the conflict? If the aliens could simply will it, and a person could be targeted anywhere on the surface of a planet, or within a million kilometers in space, and the person would die, where would be the conflict?
If the aliens had computer assisted intelligences which operated at orders of magnitude more rapidly than our minds and utilizing processes beyond our imagining, where would be the conflict?
If the aliens could simply restore someone who had died in the past to life, exactly as that person had been at any time in their life, then what would be the point in killing them?
Yes, and if they could do these things, wouldn?t we accept them as Gods?
It seems obvious to me that these are the type of capabilities that a millennia old interstellar civilization would have. Yes, we can?t imagine how they would do that. Humans a thousand years ago couldn?t imagine how we do the things we do today. To them, it would be magic.
That?s the essence of Sir Arthur C. Clarke?s third law.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

To be fair, the premise of Stargate is that a bunch of glorified leaches stole a bunch of tech. Not too hard to see a human/Tok'ra/Jaffa alliance doing some real damage. And you can't say it wasn't realistic after the Ori came along. lol

Maybe I missed something there. It seems that Goa'uld had the brains when they took over their hosts on their native world. Did they leave their native world under their own power or did somebody land and get taken over? It seems to me that the big advantage of the hosts to the Goa?uld is hands.
If the Goa?uld took over visitors who came in FTL ships, this would be a stretch. It works on TV or movies when some dummy climbs out of a spaceship and starts wandering around a world. Not too likely a scenario for somebody with FTL tech.
If the Goa?uld got to the stars on their own, then they had developed some pretty good tech on their own. After all, we aren?t there yet.
Anyway, as far as I recall, the Goa?uld developed their initial technology. They may have supplemented it with other tech later on, but they got to the stars on their own. Yes, the Stargates were there before the Goa?uld, but the Goa?uld had FTL ships. Earth had Stargates, but it didn?t seem to do us much good until we developed a technological society.
Still, the series never really explained the Goa?uld. The Tok?ra showed that they were pretty complex characters and that their malignity was largely cultural.
As far as the Human, Jaffa, and Tok?ra alliance. Not believable the way they did it. If there were an open struggle between Goa?uld and the Tok?ra, yeah, believable. However, for Humans at our level of tech to play an important role, absurd. That?s like the Bushmen playing a dominant role in World War II, only more extreme.
As I said, maybe I missed the show where they stole the tech, so I would be grateful if you could fill me in on it.

As for the Ori, yes I can say that?s not realistic, at least to me. If God wants you to believe, you believe. God can put on a better show than Stargate showed.
The other problem I have is with this ascended human bit. Yes, with technology, we can go there. Easy. The singularity makes it probable a lot sooner than we might expect.
However, Daniel Jackson doesn?t seem to use a machine when he ascends. Supposedly it?s just another phase of Human evolution. That?s not Science Fiction, that?s fantasy. There is nothing in the human body that goes that route. That?s the ESP BS.
The Ori are ascended humans, not cyborgs or AIs. That?s where it crosses the border on realism for me.
Of course maybe I missed something, if so, I?d appreciate it if you would point it out to me.
Let me be clear, I think that through technology, Humans can achieve powers that we would assign to God. Not only that, Humans will be able to transcend the limitations of our organic brains and achieve a reality incomprehensible to us. However, to do that, they will need the machine.

You've overlooked the more amusing...

"I for one, bow down and welcome our extraterrestrial overlords as our gods and declare holy war on those who refuse!"
