"New" Libya Releases 600 Jihadists From Prison

Obama did this. Was there any thought to what we were doing in Libya when it became evident back in March that al Qaeda was in and among the "rebel" faction? How is al qaeda preferable to Qaddafi?

We spent billions assisting in the overthrow of Qaddafi, and Libya's rebel government said Sunday that it will not extradite the Muslim Lockerbie bomber, Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, who was convicted in the 1988 bombing of a U.S.-bound jetliner which killed 270 people (mostly Americans) when it exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland.

Tens of thousands dead, billions spent .......... for what?

The newly islamicized Libya freed hundreds of hardcore Jihadists from prison there. Check out the latest from CNN. Noman Benotman is a former Libyan Islamic Fighting Group Member who renounced violence and joined the Quilliam Foundation, a counter-radicalization group based in the UK. According to him:

World Report: Hundreds of Libyan Jihadists Released from Jail The Blaze

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgBzZtzqQ_M&feature=player_embedded

“The freed militants had been imprisoned in Tripoli‘s Abu Salim prison by Moammar Gadhafi’s regime during the height of the insurgency in Iraq… as many as 600 militants may have been among the prison population at Abu Salim.”
In an even more distressing admission, Benotman also told CNN that many of the militants released are pro-al Qaeda and could infiltrate and perhaps control elements of the rebel forces, or start their own militant factions. He continued his analysis with this question:

“Nobody knows what these released prisoners are going to do next…will they take part in the fighting and if they do will they join pre-existing rebel brigades or form a separate fighting force?”

A strong man already was in power.
Either way you slice it, Obama was a moron.
When will the US quit sucking up and trying to buy friends around the world?

It is for the people of Libya to decide their future, not for the United States.

Yeah! We need to get clean away from all that mess. Let Hilary and a couple of their people kiss jaws on both sides and go.

Sure. And if they decide to be our enemy, then what?

Besides, the "people" are never the ones who choose despotic regimes. If an Islamo-Fascist regime like the one in Iran takes hold, you can bet the "people" probably had little to do with it.

Then nothing. We keep working on national DEFENSE (not offense driven by special interests in the name of defense) and if they attack we stop them. This used to ironically be a strong conservative point until the neocons changed it and now we have half the Republican party still looking to invade random countries.

Some people believe in a God given ruling right to these fundamentalist regimes much like many people did under the old European monarchies. I really think with the evolution of technology and increasing education these people will stop believing this over time and we will see revolutions like we have in Egypt and Libya, but I also realize it is not our place to say what happens to them. It is their country and their people.

Thats insane. You let the whole world light aflame while we hide in fortress America? The best defense is a good offense.

If some dope dealing gang bangers move into the house next to yours, are you just gonna wait until they rob you and rape your wife? Hell no. You drive their ass out of the neighborhood.

Your kind of thinking is what causes us to fight massive wars when they could have been averted ahead of time. If Bush was president in 1936 he might have launched a pre-emptive strike when Hitler was weak and saved the live of millions of people and massive destruction. Bush learned from history: You apparently have not. Guys like you wait until the last minute and turn a simple task into a massive mess.

The best defense is not a good offense. The Roman empire, the Greek empire, the British empire, and many before that found out the hard way. The old GOP realized this. The neocons don't. Blowback is very real. Why do you think Bin Laden did what he did?

Because he was a very evil person. He had so much and wasted it living like a rat on the run.:p

A large part was due to what we did to Afghanistan after helping the very groups fight the Soviets. It left a grudge. But I suppose telling only half the story makes it more pleasant.

Whole story or half a story he wasted his wealth and life being a terrorist. And a cowardly one at that. He was good at talking other people into getting killed or killing themselves while he watched from afar. Sorry, but he is no hero to me.

He is not a hero to me either, nor did I ever imply that. All I said was that he is a good example of blowback- of what happens when you go around the world trying to chase every little potential enemy.

As usual, liberals blame America for what Islamo-Fascist terrorists do.
I'll bet you have a poster of Obama in your room, don't you.

There is plenty of research that supports my claim not just racist intuition like what you suggest. It is at the least arguable- any historian or political academic will tell you that- including conservatives. Furthermore, Ron Paul is a believer in this view as well and he is arguably the most conservative guy in Congress depending on how you define the word. Oh and "blowback" is a term recognized and used a lot in intelligence- it was coined by the CIA and is an accepted phenomena.
