Amid a growing sense of inevitability that Mitt Romney will become the Republican nominee for president, Rick Santorum said Monday he would consider being the former Massachusetts governor's number two. In a Monday interview with CBN's David Brody, Santorum said "of course" he would consider joining Romney on the ticket.
"If he [Romney] for some reason asks you to be the Vice Presidential candidate on his ticket? I know, after it's all said and done. Would you even consider it?" Brody asked.
"Of course," Santorum said. "I mean, look. I would do in this race as I always say, this is the most important race in our country's history. I'm going to do everything I can."

Seems weird to me... usually candidates (at least in what I've seen the past few years) don't like to admit something like that, especially if they are still contending for the top spot. That aside, I hope Romney doesn't pick him and thankfully I don't think he would.

After the the way he has trashed Romney why would Romney want him? I guess it might get the wild-eyed base on board.

I think he might try it beacuse he wants a larger base thus he would take more states.

There are better ways to increase the base- Santorum doesn't hold much weight- within the Republican party he has some, sure, but add in everyone else (independents and Democrats) and all of a sudden Santorum's base is irrelevant especially when you consider the net effect which might well include lost votes from independents and Democrats because of Santorum.

If I were Romney and win the GOP ticket, which he all but has and most likely will, I would not touch Santorum or Gingrich as my VP nomination with a ten-foot pole. Both are poison and do not help him.

The problem is, Romney will not have a lot in the way of a good VP selection. Jeb Bush, Chris Christie and Marco Rubio and Susan Martinez are the best possible choices, but all have already stated they will not accept a VP nomination.

Ron Paul would not be awful. Would help with the Independents and moderates, and quite frankly, one of only a hand-full of candidates that make sense and are viable and logical, along with possibly Paul Ryan, John Huntsman and a couple others.

Sarah Palin is too polarizing, Bobby Jindal does not gain you anything strategically and is far too conservative to grab swing votes, Scott Walker is poison with the recall election, Donald Trump would be too risky, etc...

There is definitely a distinct lacking of available and beneficial talent. The pickings are indeed slim.

Marco Rubio's name is sure to come up as a VP potential. I agree completely on Santorum though. Newt is still better than Santorum, but not quite a great choice.

He would be HUGE for the Hispanic vote, and quite frankly, one of the only ways to give him a chance against Obama. If he can not wrangle the Hispanic vote, I just do not see a whole lot of other ways he can win in November.

Agreed. It would be an intriguing ticket for sure, especially against Obama Biden.

He will not do it, but Obama should dump Biden and promote Clinton. Would give him an even larger advantage.

I am sorry to support Biden, but he is a square up man of the people. He rides a train to work, for god's sake. He is not a part of the 'world banking system' that conspirators want to jazz up. He is what he is. Cons can deride him for being 'boring', but what does that mean? Has conciliatory become a bad word? When did working together become a tea party antithesis? Oh, that's right, when the tea party first formed. They not only want their way, they want everything they hate to crumble. Until their opposition is crushed, they are not happy. I think our forefathers would have puked.
