A long article but worth reading if you have the time and interest.

The gist is that circumsision is based on religious belief, tradition and unproved medical advice + an unfounded statement that it could be used to to treat a whole array of symptoms including depression and epilepsy.

I consider it as mutilating a child. Your views?

''...a medical procedure on someone who cannot make a decision for himself''

İs this a parental right or violation of children's rights, that's the question here. By the way, these examples are a bit extreme in this article, I was almost ten when I became circumcised. Too early break the integrity of the body can cause other problems but don't know very well. But it lives as a religious tradition in Muslim society, I didn't have a choice situation to do it or not, like many others.

And our parents never ask questions about the legitimacy of this procedure and İf some of their childrens do question this, that will be big disappointment for them. Also here is a big ''neighborhood pressure'' on people about religios traditions.

I don't see the issue. 1 less thing to clean and women seem to prefer it cut (at least in America).

''no circumcision no girl'' is a common slogan for the circumcision ceremonies in Muslims.

Don't act like you didn't understand my point. You know better.

I never said I didn't understand it. Hence, why I said "it came off as". But others might not understand what you meant if they don't know you...

I am a botched circumcision, so I disagree completely with the practice, as far ad women preferring it, I wouldn't know I am gay.

It is cosmetic surgery, and cosmetic surgery on an infant seems absolutely absurd to me.

I am completely biased on this subject, there are no redeeming factors of it. It is absurd and barbaric. I have the disfigurements to proove it

Which doctors? There is no medical association that is for it, there is a few special interest groups, who cares.

117 boys die a year due to unnecessary cosmetic

The actual statistical risk for stds are negledgable. The idea that you are at higher risk is a myth. This NPR propaganda is the first I have heard of it. I have been uncut for four decades I never had a uti, absurdity is no support for disfigurements

The men I have known who were uncut had way more sensitivity, less likely to suffer from Ed, and were free of illness. I met one guy with herpes, he was cut. But condoms can prevent transmission of stds.

This is the 21st Centry, we don't need barbaric wives tales coercing mutilation

The health laws in the Old Testament are still relevant today and the AAP stated that male circumcision can reduce the risk of HIV infection and the procedure is also known to lower urinary tract infections and prevent penile cancer. It should be up to individual Jewish parents to decide for their children and the government should stay out of the business of banning the practice but circumcision rates in the US dropped by 10% within a decade perhaps because younger parents are more secular and they are afraid of harming their babies.
