Nutters who get votes in America

Paul Broun, who is running for re-election as Georgia representative this November and who sits on the science committee of the House of Representatives has dismissed evolution the Big Bang theory and embryology as "lies straight from the pit of hell". Broun, who is a doctor, says that "as a scientist" he has found data that shows the earth is no older than 9,000 years and was created in six days.

-----------------

This guy is laughable but has been voted in to office. Just one of the nuts who get votes in America and there are plenty of other nuts in America who believe him right. So how many of you think the world was created in 6 days? Because this nut thinks he has evidence that it was.

Every country has foolish leaders somewhere. To think they don't is silly.

It's called an opinion. You have some laughable ones too. In the us we have that right. We are allowed to think what we wish. If that means people want to think the bible is an acurate account of the formation of the world.

Some people dont need your approval. So have your opinion and talk about it all you wish and remember one politician that has his own mind made up in spite of your disagreement isnt near the social woes of 50 millon in poverty. So inspite of your small upseting I think our country is just fine.

I would guess that his 'data' is flawed. :)
Sadly there are many misguided people with alot of support.

I really don't understand why religious beliefs are miss guided. Really who cares what he thinks about how three earth began. That is such an unimportant thing to be concerned with

I cannot believe you are defending this guy. He should not be a Congressman and he should certainly not be on the science committee. He is everything that is wrong with politics today.

Standing up for what you believe isn't wrong. I haven't a clue who he is. He shouldn't be a congressman? Why? Because you disagree? Perhaps his constitutes agree with him, they should vote for who they want. That's how our system works.

I can't believe you want to silence people who disagree with you.

I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to death your right to say it. I agree with those words.

He had the right to believe whatever he wants the bill of rights says so.

He has that right, but I am saying that I think he should not be a Congressman. Would you want someone who can't read or can't do basic arithmetic in office? If not, this is similar- he clearly doesn't have even a basic understanding of science despite 400 years of the scientific method. He instead believes in fairy tales to explain everything. Might as well vote in someone who believes in Santa Claus, the toothfairy, and unicorns and thinks that those three will guide him in office.

I hear Romney believes in all the same stuff and Santa as well, he is sure to get a few votes but Obama will win because Americans are not that stupid to vote in another rightwing nutter, well not for another 4 years at least.

To be fair there is plenty of anti-intellectualism on both sides of the aisle. Seen the debate from some in the left on genetically modified food lately?

You are being very insulting. A religion five thousand yeats in the making is not the same as mother goose.

You want him to agree with you on what science is. Because you believe something different. Why is your belief supirior to his.

You can be christian and support science.

Who cares how old the world is, why does his opinion on it bother you so much. Keep in mind opinions cant be right or wrong.

And I thought this was a place for respectful debate. Here you are dis respecting about 95%of the planet.

Grow up

I do not think that America has a left, well not one that is actually in power. Obama is a man of the right as well. That is the choice for Americans, you can have this far right nutter or a slightly less far right nut. They all seem to have the same policies. Those policies are make the rich richer and screw the rest of the nation. It has always been the way in America going back to the 18th century.

And yet the last century has seen the greatest rise of any country ever. Somebody had to be doing something right even if not optimally :p

Not true at all. Christians beliefs do not support science, the very fact that a Christian believes what they do states that they do not agree with science. Just like that bozzo in the OP.

World events made much of America, WW2 made it richer because it was all the way across the world and did not get bombed like Europe. The Marshall plan made it even more money by stating that the credits could only be used to buy American goods. Anyway those days are long gone and it is all down hill from now. Your workers cannot compete with Asia.
