Acceptable, or pathetic?

I understand the purpose of Pundits, and that politics seems to bring out the worst in many people when it comes to attack speech. I do not however, believe this to be any way to refer to the standing President of the United States.

"I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard,"

Rather pathetic in my mind. What opinions do you hold?
