Still breaking, not a lot of details yet, but at least one was shot. The shooter is also dead; there might be a second. What a sick person to do this.

Several sources are saying at least 18 were children out of what is now 27 total.

By the way, this makes it worse in body count than Columbine and second overall only to VT.

It may have stemmed from a family problem and the shooter's mother was a teacher at the elementary school where the deadly school shooting took place and his mother was one of the 27 victims and most victims were inside her kindergarten classroom and he may have killed his girlfriend prior to the shooting and Obama ordered to lower US flags to half-staff.

What ever the number is, it's disgraceful and i wonder if they will put in some gun laws now to stop anymore from happening.

Doubtful...there have been school massacres before and it made no difference. On another forum I visit, they try to make out that UK is a more dangerous place than USA!...they wont change their gun laws

Well, looks like it happened in China as well. 2 dozen kids knifed while at school yesterday. Several are in critical condition but nobody has died yet (I say yet because the criticals could succumb later).

I have a different hypothesis. There are outliers in everything. The bigger the sample size, the more the outliers.

Acceptable hypothesis, actually mathematically valid.

It seems inevitable that as population increases, so will every aspect, including the unacceptable. Until we change as a culture/species.....this is our lot.

I just do not see logic in making it easier for the unacceptable.

By no means am I saying we should just stand by and say this is okay. But I don't think the Lanzas of the world should define our species either or even come close to it.

Of course we have to act on this and try to minimize this sort of thing happening again- it is certainly possible, I'd say.

I wasnt aware though i just found out that the guy that did this killed his mum that actually brought him up with guns. I know this might sound wrong and im sure people will jump on me for it though i am a great believer that your upbringing has everything to do when you get older and if you have been brought up around guns then hardly surprising eh?

Now im not saying everyone is going to be like this though mind.

If you were right wouldn't you expect to see several massacres every week? There are 40-50 million households with guns.

There is no there, there.

Many of us grew up with mothers. Shouldn't we be murdering our mothers with the weapons in our households, perhaps at an even greater rate, maybe 5-10 per day? After all, it is pretty easy to kill one mother compared to shooting one's way into a gun-free zone.

Just thought I would throw this in the mix. I grew up a child of the 50s and 60s. We had guns in the house. I knew to leave them alone without permission. Anyone could buy a gun at the hardware store without any ID. In 1966 I took my 12 gauge shotgun to school on the school bus. It stayed in my shop locker while I put all new wood on it. Never worried about anyone shooting up the school. Never even heard of that back then. We did have fights at school but pulling a weapon of any kind would have seemed cowardly.

I have no idea what "science" would say as too what and why. But what changed in this country? We have more laws, but a law will not stop anyone willing to die to do the deed. I am watching and reading, but we are missing something that is not coming up in all these dang "talking points".
