Konami Reveals Iraq War Game

On of the most trusted game manufacturer Konami is going to release a new game entitled Six Days in Fallujah on the PS3/XBox360. It is based on the 2004 US military campaign Operation Fury. It gets different comments from gamers, veterans and even ordinary people. What do you think?

Tansy Hoskins expressed similar sentiments over hearing about this game, speaking to TechRadar UK:

"There is nothing to celebrate in the death of people resisting an unjust and bloody occupation. To make a game out of a war crime and to capitalise on the death and injury of thousands is sick. There will never be a time when it is appropriate for people to 'play' at committing atrocities. The massacre in Fallujah should be remembered with shame and horror not glamorised and glossed over for entertainment."

Bunch of over-reaction.

I don't hear that many WWII vets complaining about all their games. Same with Vietnam games. It's just a game. They did do a few tasteless things though. They claim that they consulted with insurgents for tactics...so not cool.

It's all pretty dumb though. Early reviews say that it is just Gears of War reskinned for Iraq. It'll just be another war game, it just happens to have insurgents vs. marines.

As far as that guys comment goes, most wars have been glamorized and glossed over - either by video games, or by television shows or movies. EDIT: Looks like parakeet beat me to the punch.

The only thing the controversy is going to do is make more people buy it - I don't get why the people that bitch don't realize this.

I don't see a problem with this. In fact, it could probably be very enjoyable. After all, it's only a game Think I would also like to see a game covering the big investment bank bail-out, maybe something of an electronic monopoly game

It is sad that they are just trying to sell it as the "big Iraq War game." Konami really isn't showing respect for the subject matter. Nothing wrong with that, just a missed chance.

Just look at what Call of Duty has done with warfare. The Russian campaigns are famous for really showing off the brutality of war. 4 was really dark too, just through the chaos of the Middle East levels. Konami's just too lazy to put real effort into it to make it great.

The only problem, I think about this game is violence. But I don't see anymore thing more than that.
I can also say that these kinds of violent games is just normal nowadays. Take a look at Battlefield, Halo, Gears of War and Grand Theft Auto.

Last night when I was trying to look for some good TV viewing I was clicking from one violent and graphically vivid murder and kill scene to another. The more violent apparently the more popular. Looks as though the demand is for violence. Pretty awful I think. Wish we could get back to really epic movies. They had a re-run of Victor Victoria two nights ago and that is more like it. Good sense of humour. I would imagine that same kind of violence is in demand for games.

I really stay away from graphical violence suchh as murder and massacre films like Saw. I really can't stand watching them. Humor, fantasy, comedy and sci-fi films are my only choice.

Exactly. I don't see whats wrong with it. I can't even begin to count the number of WW2 games, Vietnam games, e.g. The only thing really different about this time is that it's the first time a game has been made during an ongoing war, but I don't see why it's such a big deal. It's not demonizing the people who fought in it, it looks like Konami set otu to make a realistic game.

Maybe also because the United States is involved in that war and has a personal stake in it, rather than being a bystander? Sort of up close and personal.

Konami have decided to drop the game and it will not be released until futher notice.

I can't imagine they will completely drop it, possibly just "mothball" it. This was an excellent market test I think

Well, Konami was just the publisher. The developer still has all the work completed. They were shocked by the decision. It looks like they'll still work to get it released though. I'm kinda surprised that Konami did this. Seems kinda odd.

Yeah. They are merely done what people want them to do. I think they have done this to refrain from bad impressions and comments from the people to the publishers. But I'm felt excited about the fact that Konami still wants to release this game. I want to see what they will do to release this. And I also want to hear people's impressions when this was released.

The developers, Atomic Games (apparently a new company), are not too happy that about a year and a half of work is just getting thrown out the window. They'll probably shop around for another month or so until someone picks it up.

That will be a very good idea. They could make a new game by using the same engine and frame but with a different concept. Maybe they could change the skins of the game and terrain to make it different from the defunct one.

Maybe the real mistake that this game makes controversy is because they tell the place where this game took place: Fallujah, Iraq. I think they should have not reveal the location in the first place.
