Just before midnight local time 2 massive explosions occurred just outside downtown Tianjin at the port.

So far they've pulled 50 corpses from the rubble and have found 700 injured survivors. The casualty count is expected to continue rising as time passes.

While most workers were away, many firefighters that had attempted to put out the fire that caused this were caught in the blast.

The destruction was total.

Thus do we have safety regulations in the United States...and who knows what those people are breathing right now.

I'm really feeling for the locals right now.

And the Chinese economy was already in free fall, I wonder what effect this is having.

104 confirmed dead. I wonder what it'll be tomorrow.

Also new fires and rain in the forecast which could set off more explosions and create a poison gas cloud.

There were toxic chemicals on scene that would react dangerously with water and Chinese firefighters mistakenly created the massive explosions by spraying water to extinguish an initial fire. Pollutants may have already contaminated the city's air and some Westerners moved their families out of the city as a precautionary measure. Sodium cyanide (NaCN) releases hydrogen cyanide gas on contact with acids or water and hydrogen cyanide gas (HCN) in air is highly explosive at concentrations over 5.6%, which is the direct cause of the disaster.
