More unrest in Iran today as protests against the government continue:

Violence erupted at and around university campuses across Iran on Monday as demonstrators took to the streets during the regime-sanctioned Student Day, but used the occasion to press their months-long protest against the government.

That country is going to be in a fight somewhere anyway. I would just as soon they fight each other at home. Maybe it will keep some of them busy for a while. Who knows, maybe a couple of real bad guys will not survive the "unrest".

Iran is on the brink of greatness, strong, well placed geologically, decent military, wealthy (even more so if the sanctions were lifted), Democratic (you think they'd be such unrest if the people weren't used to calling the shots?), hell, Iran is more Western then most Western nations. Iran is far from Democratic. Unrest usually happens when there is some crisis that affects people's lives tremendously and under the current regime's economic plan, we have seen growing turmoil in the economy and in turn, in people's lives. It is because of all of this that the people are so mad, not necessarily because they are democratic. In fact, part of this push is to establish a more democratic/Westernized system opposed to Ahmadinejad's very fundamentalist views.

Totally agreed. People's freedom are limited especially when it gets to the media and freedom of speech, also of movement. Colleagues of mine have attended international conferences in Iran, and had to be escorted from the airport and everywhere, ostensibly for their safety, but my colleagues got more of a flavour of being monitored and carefully watched where they go.
