1. ....it's been a banner week for Donald Trump, American president, and his brain....
But remember when the president endorsed the idea he is King of Israel and the Second Coming of God? And then he said Jewish people who vote for Democrats—that is, the 70-to-80 percent of American Jews who don't support him—are guilty of "disloyalty" to Israel? And then he accused Rashida Tlaib of anti-Semitism? And then he started screaming, "WHERE IS THE FEDERAL RESERVE?" And then he canceled a diplomatic trip to Denmark because the prime minister was rude in saying she wouldn't sell him Greenland? And then he demanded Russia be reinstated in the G8, and said they were only thrown out because they "outsmarted" Obama, when in fact it was because they'd invaded Ukraine? And then he declared he was The Chosen One, looking to the heavens as he said it, who'd been tapped by the almighty to launch a trade war against China?.....
2. For a man who sees himself as the messiah, President Trump has a lackluster record on Earth.
On Wednesday morning, he tweeted out with approval a conspiracy theorist’s claim that Israelis view Trump “like he’s the King of Israel” and “the second coming of God” (a theology Jews reject). He shared the conspiracy theorist’s puzzlement that American Jews don’t view him likewise.
Hours later, he explained why he has taken a tough trade policy against China: “I am the chosen one.”
Holy God complex!
I lack the celestial sources to fact-check Trump’s claim. But as messiahs go, King Donald of Israel, Blessed Be His Name, appears to be a false prophet:...
3. Just two days after claiming to be the "Chosen One" to mount a trade war with China, US stocks plunged in a volatile session on Friday, 23 August. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended down more than 600 points. Obviously nobody, including the Divine One, wants to see his name misused for any ungodly purpose.
Perhaps long after Trump fades away into history, what the world could still remember most vividly was the moment he looked up at the sky as he claimed to be the "Chosen One" to mount a trade war with China.
Meanwhile, Trump's self-proclaimed messianic status may give us an inkling of how some people in Hong Kong see democracy. Perhaps they are feeling a twinge of envy for the Americans who are so lucky to choose a messiah as their leader out of a population of 329,000,000.
Don't worry. They can always recruit Trump as their leader if he is unemployed next year or retired four years later.
