Google is considering pulling out of China after they discovered highly-sophisticated attacks on Gmail accounts of human rights activists coming from within China as well as attacks on several other corporations. The company is still investigating and has not officially said that the Chinese government was behind the attacks, but I am guessing that they do have some suspicion, otherwise they would not consider such a drastic move.

This just goes to show the extent of China's abuse of the internet. The net they have on everything in their own country is a disgrace. I hope Google does threaten to terminate operations and other countries follow suit until the Chinese loosen up.

The Chinese Government really needs to learn about the term "civil liberties". Morons.

Let me just add that Google really deserves kudos for its responsible actions. Another great example of why capitalism and the existence of corporations isn't necessarily the evil some have made them out to be.

Right, they do deserve kudos for standing on a matter of principle. I believe David Drummond, the Google Chief Legal Officer refers to it as still being under discussion with China. So wonder whether the PR campaign is an attempt to garner some support from the US Government and corporations, as well as some posturing with the Chinese. I can't really see them withdrawing from China however, can you?

Support in terms of what? I doubt the United States supports censorship and this sort of malicious attacking in China :p

I certainly can. A company that provides amazing benefits to its workers, has created an environmentally-friendly corporate complex, always seems to go the extra mile- I can certainly see them pulling out of China, a market in which their operation isn't even relatively very big.

No, Hillary Clinton came out in a Press Release specifically saying that the Government does not support censorship. That is the support that I had meant. By making what was happening known, this was one of the consequences, i.e. Hillary Clinton giving her sixpence worth

I know that piracy of software is very high in China, however they are growing in a major way. It has to be a potentially large market for Google. If they do leave China, I will however REALLY take my hat off for them, as then there is a real sincere stand of principle on the part of Google. Just imagine how well their stocks will be doing in the US?
