On his Christian Broadcasting Network today, televangelist Pat Robertson told viewers:

And you know, Christy, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it, they were under the heel of the French, uh, you know, Napoleon the third and whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the devil, they said, we will serve you, if you get us free from the Prince, true story. And so the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' And they kicked the French out, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free, and ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other, desperately poor. . . the Island of Hispaniola is one island cut down the middle. On the one side is Haiti, on the other side is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is, is, prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty, same Islands, uh, they need to have, and we need to pray for them, a great turning to God. And out of this tragedy, I'm optimistic something good may come, but right now we're helping the suffering people, and the suffering is unimaginable.

Idiot. The Haitians are Catholic, he's Protestant. I wonder if he was making a stubble attack...

Tch. Moron.

I do enjoy laughing at these sorts of people, though. Except Fred Phelps. I just want him to die in a ditch.

Now I know why so many atheists are so full of themselves.

I really want to keep the integrity of these forums but this is so incredibly stupid. Robertson's remarks truly deserve a facepalm:

Seems to me Pat Robertson is to be pitied as much as ridiculed. But I understand how both could fit the situation.

Well said Dodge. Like he is hanging on to last straws, and digging really deep in order to get an interview. Pity though for the subject he chose, probably going to do him more harm than good.

Aww how horrible is it when massive groups of people suffer and one person spreads a message of hate and ignorance implying that they deserved it.

Reverend Pat Robertson once advocated the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, intimating that such action would be a good thing. This is strange speech from one who would preach the Ten Commandments. Is not the Bible (according to Rev. Robertson) the literal word of God? Did God not mean what He commanded: ?Thou shalt not kill?? Exodus 20:13 (KJV). Now Haiti had a "pact with the devil." Right.

Christians like Pat Robertson pass more gas than gospel.

As I said, I think it's a dig at their Catholicism.

The pact with the devil was not in reference to Roman Catholicism. He has a history of being overly tolerant of Rome's non-biblical tenants that puzzles many Christians.
I thought the reference was to religion in generally, and that perhaps there have been too many sinners in Haiti? According to Robertson of course.
