The figure includes nine children. It is not confirmed whether it was the doing of one soldier or a group, but one solider has been detained according to NATO.

This certainly is not going to help matters in Afghanistan at all.

The soldier who did it has apparently been identified as Robert Bales and is now being held at a Kansas base in a solitary cell.

From some of the stuff I am hearing he should not have been there anyway. He had already been to Iraq three times and wounded twice. One a severe head wound.

Did not hear about the severe head wound.

I know his family and friends were stunned and shocked.

Reports are he was drinking at the time and may have been under great stress from the relentless combat and tours.

There are no winners in this ordeal. Only tragedy.
